Re: Isolation Transformer
If you plug it into the dryer or oven outlet, you'll get 240v.

Re: Isolation Transformer
not exactly my question,
in the u.s. the main fusebox is fed with 120-0-120
so you can use both phases to get 240v for big stuff like tumble-dryersLeave a comment:

dont you have 230v at your panel like americans?Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
GISD-1000 IS isolation and also a step-down transformer as shown in his description and also in the spec. sheet.
'Stancor GISD-1000 Isolation Transformer Used.
Plugged in and works.
Mounting brackets are slightly bent (see pics). Device shows some wear and tear.
Input 230V 50/60 HZ
Output 115V 1000VA 8.7A
Sold as is no returns'
See attached spec sheet for GISD-1000.
You should have bought GIS-1000Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
I did a resistance check and there is no continuity between the input and output so it is indeed isolated. Problem is I am only getting 60VAC since it is a step down. Is there a way to modify or some way i can still get it to output 120VAC.Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
The ebay picture above may well be an Isolation transformer but the spec says:
Input 230V 50/60 HZ
Output 115V 1000VA 8.7A
To check if it is an isolation transformer measure resistance between the input and output terminals which should be open circuit between Live In /Live Out, Neutral In / Neutral Out.Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
That link http://www.ebay.ca/itm/222226718872#ht_166wt_1319 shows a picture of a 220 volt to 110 volt step down transformer. which is what you got
I suspect it is a GISD-1000Leave a comment:

So if you connect it to a 220 volt outlet you will get your isolated 110 voltsLast edited by R_J; 09-16-2016, 01:04 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
Are you sure you received the GIS-1000 as shown in the web site and matched the PDF spec I provided? 1000VA is a BIG transformer.
Show us the EBAY seller web page and the picture of the unit you bought.
I see some on EBAY:

Re: Isolation Transformer
just an idea, but if you only need to use the scope for a few min's - why not use a UPS and pull the input before you do the testing?Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
It's a step-up auto-transformer which has both the inputs and output on the same winding.
115V ac in for 230V ac out and the earth is connected straight though.
It is not an isolation transformer so is not suitable or safe for what you want to do.Last edited by dick_barton; 09-16-2016, 07:01 AM.Leave a comment:

by harpWhen is talk about making isolation transformer on poor-man way, always I see schematic 240/12-12/240.
So, I wonder, is this wiring from my attachment it work, bringing some good feature or it is bad idea and why?... -
by BriesmithI have a blown smps and I am looking for some reassurance as to the amount of diagnosis I have to do. It blew the instant I plugged it in not under any load.
As you can see from the attached pix, the damage is located around the main or bulk capacitor (since removed for testing) and the resistor array/network that drives it (the bunch of SMD components to the left of the YAMAHA YC775 AMPS logo). The burn mark on the frame clearly shows the pins of the capacitor. And, for the avoidance of doubt, there is no way the board could have contacted the frame, it was correctly mounted on... -
by repair-itI am attempting to test a samsung power supply board to verify the pfc ic is working. I am powering up the board with my isolation transformer. The board turns on fine but when I attempt to connect the ground for the scope probe, it trips out the isolator. I was taught not to 'float my scope' so I am wondering if I should test without connecting the ground lead or would that be asking for trouble? Not sure how else to test, I don't have a portable scope. I could plug direct to mains power but that would bypass the safety factor.

by mikey5791Hi all,
Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
My questions are
1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
Hope you guys understand what i was asking. My intention is... -
by PlayerOneI need help in finding a schematic or otherwise identifying the electrical characteristics of a transformer in a SMPS having the following marking:
042-010214-000ZR
ELY 1317
A photo of the transformer is attached. In particular, this is a PCB mounted transformer and I need the pinout.
I've tried Google searches of various portions of the part number with no luck, however managed to find posts with photos of this transformer having the same markings, except for the numbers following the “ELY” which leads me to believe they must be date code... - Loading...
