Re: Isolation Transformer
Are there any other numbers on it? sounds like its a stepdown transformer from 220 - 100 volts, and inputing 110 into the primary would give about 55 volts out
it could be an auto transformer and not an isolation transfomer, with it unpluged can you measure resistance from the primary to the secondary?
Maybe its a GISD-1000

Re: Isolation Transformer
ok I got my isolation transformer. I connected the transformer mains power into the wall outlet, and connected my SMPS I am testing, to the output cable of the isolation transformer. For some reason I am only getting about 45Volts AC out of the isolation transformer. Is there something wrong with it? I got it on eBay.Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
Scope to the regular outlet, what ever you are fixing into the isolation transformer.Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
awesome, thanks. So do I just connect the power cord from my scope and/or device under test into the output side of the isolation transformer?Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
It must be verified that the LINE or NEUTRAL on the outlet of the ISOLATION transformer has no electrical connection to safety GND or to the primary side.
Some of the TRIPPLITE ISOLATION transformer have neutral connected to safety GND.Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
Someone correct this if it's inaccurate please, but you need a "technician's" isolation transformer or else the ground is connected to neutral.Leave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
being able to set the trip current would be a great asset, thanksLeave a comment:

Re: Isolation Transformer
That will work, but if you want to invest a bit more I would get the Sencore PR570. It does a lot more then just a isolation transformer.
The main reason I like this unit is because you can set the trip current, check leakage.Leave a comment:

Isolation Transformer
Will any of these work for testing primary side of SMPS with scope?

by harpWhen is talk about making isolation transformer on poor-man way, always I see schematic 240/12-12/240.
So, I wonder, is this wiring from my attachment it work, bringing some good feature or it is bad idea and why?... -
by BriesmithI have a blown smps and I am looking for some reassurance as to the amount of diagnosis I have to do. It blew the instant I plugged it in not under any load.
As you can see from the attached pix, the damage is located around the main or bulk capacitor (since removed for testing) and the resistor array/network that drives it (the bunch of SMD components to the left of the YAMAHA YC775 AMPS logo). The burn mark on the frame clearly shows the pins of the capacitor. And, for the avoidance of doubt, there is no way the board could have contacted the frame, it was correctly mounted on... -
by repair-itI am attempting to test a samsung power supply board to verify the pfc ic is working. I am powering up the board with my isolation transformer. The board turns on fine but when I attempt to connect the ground for the scope probe, it trips out the isolator. I was taught not to 'float my scope' so I am wondering if I should test without connecting the ground lead or would that be asking for trouble? Not sure how else to test, I don't have a portable scope. I could plug direct to mains power but that would bypass the safety factor.

by mikey5791Hi all,
Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
My questions are
1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
Hope you guys understand what i was asking. My intention is... -
by PlayerOneI need help in finding a schematic or otherwise identifying the electrical characteristics of a transformer in a SMPS having the following marking:
042-010214-000ZR
ELY 1317
A photo of the transformer is attached. In particular, this is a PCB mounted transformer and I need the pinout.
I've tried Google searches of various portions of the part number with no luck, however managed to find posts with photos of this transformer having the same markings, except for the numbers following the “ELY” which leads me to believe they must be date code... - Loading...
