    Repaired vizio m320sl

I just wanted to pass this along in case it could help someone else. I was given this tv and it would do nothing . I found the fuse to be blown and upon further inspection a burnt component . It is circled in the picture but I do not (embarrassingly) know what it is but I had a good one from another ps board I had saved for parts . I soldered it in and it stopped blowing fuses and worked as it should . If some one can identify this component it would help and satisfy my curiosity as well .

That is a MOV (Varistor, as you can see, the designator is 'VAR??') for surge and over Voltage protection. The TV proably hit by surge or over Voltage condition.
For 120VAC line they usually use 150V rating MOV, it is hooked up between the Line and Neutral AFTER the fuse.

Everything was burnt off the bad one and the one I put in had no writing on it at all but they were identical in physical size .

Same size is does not mean the same Voltage rating, the TV will function without it because it is for protection only, so if it has higher Voltage rating then it may not protect to circuit from being badly damaged, there has to be some printing on the body if you remove the shrink tubing from it.

That makes sense , I can check it. I am glad to know what it is. Should have occurred to me before. So as long as a good Mov is in the ps the tv will work but may not be protected from future surges . Thank you for the info , I could have mislead someone there with my post .

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
            by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

            Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

            Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
            by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....

            Vizio M65-C1
            by mrtek
            Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...
