    Suggestions to UpGrade Power Supply?

Received a Samsung UN32EH4003FXZA LED TV with starting problems.

From experience with this model guessed it had bad cap(s) so checked the Power Supply and found the 47uF 160 V cap starting to bulge. The adjacent 47 200 V cap and all the other caps are OK.

I would like to upgrade the failing 47uF 160 V cap so appreciate any suggestions.

Re: Suggestions to UpGrade Power Supply?

Forgot to mention that have searched the Internet to check if anyone has determined why these 47uF 160 V caps are failing but to date have found nothing.

My 1st guess is since this is an inexpensive TV, Samsung was trying to save money on caps.

Am thinking about upgrading this cap to 200 V as radiotvnut posted "Samsung 32" from 2012 (easy fix)" http://www.videokarma.org/archive/in.../t-264566.html

Am also wondering if it is worthwhile to use a low ESR, long life,... cap?

    Appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks

What is the series of that SAMWHA cap?
It is not easy to find 47uF 160/200VDC LOW ESR cap which should be used for that filter cap for the LED driver circuit..

I would guess the additional heat from the transformer located below it helped cook it as the other 47/200 looks in better shape.

Question: If can find a suitable cap, do you think a LOW ESR cap is worth while in this circuit?

Re: Suggestions to UpGrade Power Supply?

That LED driver power supply is switching power supply so the replacement has to be LOW ESR type, you can also get the spec of the SAMWHA WL series cap to find something that will match the original spec.

Thanks for the tip! Did (attach 1) Big question is if SAMWHA caps meet their own specs. Since got this TV have been searching for successful repairs. Seems any general replacement switching power supply cap will work for some time. Even SAMWHA 47uF 160 V cap lasted for 4+ years.

What I would like to do is replace it with something what will Never Fail!

A recent post I found is "Samsung LCD TV LN-T5265F Black Screen Diagnosis Help" by gonefishin09 http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussio...s-help-359389/ at "more info on faulty Samsung / Samwha capacitors" mentions "I found an almost exact specification match with the Nippon Chemi-Con KZE series http://www.chemi-con.com/files/KZE.pdf"

While the max V of the KZE series is too low I have more confidence in Nippon Chemi-Con caps!

Hope that US Chemi_Con http://www.chemi-con.com/data-sheets has same reliability!!! Am I correct? Any comments?

Have found KXL EKXL401E□□470MJ40S (attach 2) have not checked all the series caps specs yet) this may be overkill and also need to check if will fit. Same for EPAG401E□□470MK30S (attach 3).

Maybe best to just get a 200 V switching power supply cap???

Thanks again for all your help!!!

Maybe lay the new cap on its side under the bn44...... there seems to be enough open space. I admit, I've done it before (when I could only get axial caps,or replacements were too big).Glue it down with some hi-tech RTV sillicone.

"It is not easy to find 47uF 160/200VDC LOW ESR cap..." Agree have checked a few US cap datasheets and more difficult than 1st thought.

Am wondering if Max ESR 5.291 is acceptable? To date the best I have found is 3.60 (All rated at 120 Hz and 20 C).

Also consider myself a beginner concerning Power Supply Caps so appreciate any suggestions.

From previous mention am guessing life expectancy for these caps is determined by max Voltage, Temp, ESR...

Thanks again everyone for your comments!!!

Have done a lot of searching about problems with this Samsung LED TV Power Supply and if caught early the 47 uF 160 V cap is always the one that fails.

I intend to keep a close check on this PS so want to upgrade the 47 uF 160 V cap and hope this will eliminate any other cap problems.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
                              by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...

Trying to repair a power supply from a Russound CA4 Multizone Controller (picture attached)

Russound no longer supports it but were kind enough to provide a schematic of the power supply (pdf attached).

The outputs marked 12v and 20v are all measuring only 1v.

The board is clicking, which I think means it is in something called hiccup mode when the flyback transformers switches because of an internal problem or something else on the board Overloading it.
