Re: Panasonic Plasma SD, SU Buffer IC repair

I'm with gdawg when it comes to picture quality. Have been messing with TV's for three years now as a hobby. At first it was LCD's, but this year I have picked up two 42" and one 50" Panasonic TV's not working. I had a 47" Vizio smart TV I repaired in living room and the picture quality drove me crazy. My wife does not notice it at all. I repaired the SS board on the 50" and put it in place of the Vizio and I love it. Just hate that boards are getting scarce and expensive when you can find them. Really appreciate all of you that keep finding ways to keep them running. Thanks.

I agree but having such a hard time gutting a perfectly fine working set.
Proud owner of dozens of broken TV's and many, many, many boards.

Re: Panasonic Plasma SD, SU Buffer IC repair

Can someone help me find a reasonable priced source for R2A20251 buffer chips? I am trying my hand at repairing a TNPA5534 board from a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 plasma set. The nail polish remover work great at breaking down the RTV silicon. I had a tough time removing the heat sink but I found heating the sink first and then slipping a razor blade under the corner works best at removal. Thanks in advance!

I've bought mine from Aliexpress in the past.
This is the video I used to check for a failed chip produced by one of the many TV gurus on here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51SZsfH60EY
The pins need insulating after replacing the chip. I used transformer varnish as recommended by another member on here.
I practised on a scrap buffer first and carefully cut the pins on the old buffer IC with a sharp blade then removed the pins afterwards with my iron.

There a quote on toms video regarding buffer ics whats your thoughts regarding this can they cause the odd lines we sometimes see on plasmas and we think there panel faults?

Buffer chips can be still faulty even if they look immaculate and show no beeping from your ohmmeter. You need to make sure there's no double reading in both ways from so-called floating ground plus they can be defective from the inside causing various types of horizontal lines (in that case reading perfect with your meter)

All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
              • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
              • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

              Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
              by jm1234
              Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ85U No screen No blinks on red power light
              by Alicat
              Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

              Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

Panasonic P42S30 Plasma - Pink sparkles
              by Lintesir
My parents' Panasonic P42S30 died recently, and they asked me to have a look at it. I was able to identify the SN-board as the culprit, as it was shorted. After removing Q401, Q402, Q421 and Q422 the short was gone, so I replaced these components and that got the TV working again. However, when testing the tv a bit, I noticed quite bad pinkish sparkles on some colors. For instance the greyish bar on this forum seems to trigger it quite badly. I made a fullscreen test picture with only that color, with the below result.

There is about a 5cm high region at the top without any sparkles,...
