Sylvania lcd tv model ld370ss8 works fine for 30 min, then shuts off

So, the tv turns on and operates just fine. Runs for about 30 minutes, then shuts itself off. I can then immediately turn it back on. However the length of time shortens, to maybe about 15 min? And then I can again turn it right back on.

I have read thru all the threads on this forum concerning similar issues with like sets, and have checked all of other fixes, including:

The wires that connect the bulbs to the transformers arcing. I made sure they were separated and not touching, and placed cardboard in between the wires to make sure there was no arcing. Still shut off.

Examined the mut board extensively. No cracked solders.

I checked the readings of the secondary windings on the transformers that power the bulbs. There are 8 total. Unfortunately I only have an analog meter. One of the transformers does appear to be slightly lower than the other 7, but it is so hard to be sure with the analog meter. I checked it back and forth several times against the others, and it really looks like it is a hair off of the others.

    Any suggestions? Comments?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Posting pictures of the back of your tv showing the boards with clear pictures may help you more with fixing your problem

Can you be more specific what exactly happens? Does the backlight go out and the rest keeps running or does the whole TV turn off by itself?

The whole set shuts off. Green light goes out, red stand-by light comes on.

Admittedly I am a novice at best at this. And at the low end. So, laymen terms would be great. I was required to take an intro class to electrical engineering, so I know at least what the components are supposed to do and how to make readings, but beyond that, these boards look like its from an alien spaceship to me.

If the TV shuts totally off, than the trouble should be on the main board.
To test this, you could force the PSU and the backlights on with the main board disconnected. Sounds like some firmware or eeprom issue.

Would this be the main board, correct? If so, how do I force the psu (and what is that?) and the back lights on with the main board disconnected?

the main board is that board that has all the hdmi video input jacks, the antenna jack etc. That brown board on your last pic is the PSU (power supply). This Sylvania looks similar like a Emerson. Those guys (Funai) like to split their PSU's and actually have another one that does the backlight's (first pic). The problem is that I can't see any pin outs to see what is what. Some set's have them printed on the back side of the board, others have none. If that's the case we are SOL unless there is a service manual / schematic diagram to figure things out.

Let me see what I can do for you. If I have to, I'll draw a schematic of it all and clearly mark what is hooked to what and where everything else leads off too.

The case is not always the main board for this TV. I just got done fixing one doing the same thing. The TV would turn on and right back off. The problem was the lamp wires were shorting out. I wrapped the wires with electric tape and the TV was fixed.

I am having another issue with it now, no power to the DVD player so I have to figure that one out.

If the TV is turning off in progressively shorter time, can I suggest you use a can of freezer spray and see if you can cool the components on the power supply to see if it changes the time to return to standby.
Also when it does go into standby are any of the transformers feeding the lamps hotter than the others.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

I have fixed many of these TVs and 50% of the time it is the lamp wires shorting to the other wires or to the frame. Very common and very easy to see if you turn it on in the dark with the back cover off. Sometimes the wires will glow and sometimes you will see sparks. You only need to insulate the wires to fix it.

It will be interesting to see if this is also the case here.

Well as I said I was having an issue with no power going to the DVD player. I suspected the secondary power supply part # BA71F0F01026-1. I had another board so I switched it out and now I am getting power to the DVD player and it is currently playing a DVD. My next step is to test the bad board and figure out if I can fix it.

So I took a look at the Bad board ( BA71F0F01026-1 ) and I found that someone had tried to work on it before and they abused it pretty bad. None of the components were bad but a lot of them were broke loose from the board. There was so much damage I forgot how many spots I had to fix. But the results are that I fixed the broken board and now it is working and playing a DVD.

So I repaired the damaged lamp wires and repaired the DVD power board BA71F0F01026-1 and now this TV is working great. I actually have 3 more to work on.
