That's a good enough explanation for me. By CLR I assume you mean current limiting resistor, unfortunately I don't actually have the schematic for this board so I'm unsure which resistor that is. As for the mosfets, both are showing 0V on the gate.
Thank you for the clarification, that was my misunderstanding. I thought it was "pulling up" the voltage on AD_ID from ground to 1V. What would you call this resistor, other than just the adapter ID resistor?...

Thank you for the response. I realize the issue with AD_ID having no voltage. However, I was able to find a second adapter and test it, and while it did produce a voltage on AD_ID (as included in edit), the protection mosfets still would not open.
I measured the resistance as you said and I got 10kohm/15kohm depending on direction. Don't think main power rail is shorted. As for burnt components, I don't see any, but I don't have my microscope today so I was just using a loupe. I did see a few large spots of a dark, opaque sticky residue, including some that completely covered a couple...

Laptop HP Omen 15-ek0023dx DA0G3EMBCD0 REV:D no signs of life
I got this laptop in today, will not power on. No lights whatsoever, including charge light. I'm still pretty new to component level repair so bear with me. I measured 19.5V between +VA and ground, but no voltage on +VAD, BATDIS_G, or AD_ID.
I also measured the resistance from AD_ID to ground. I got 5.2kohm with red probe on ground, and 6kohm with black probe on ground (unsure which is correct). Is this what you would expect for a 200W charger? I wasn't able to find much information but what I did find suggested that 200W charger id pull-up resistor should be closer to 100kohm....

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately the customer opted to take back his machine before I could attempt the fix. I've directed him towards this thread but beyond that it's out of my hands, sorry for the unsatisfying conclusion.

Thank you for the detailed reply! I went through everything I could, and here's what I found.
No ripped off caps. There are quite a few that are missing when compared to the boardview, but it looks more like they were simply never added on my board (rev 1.3).
The board does not POST with the 1060 in any of the other slots.
I tried this before, but this board doesn't seem to have that as an option in the BIOS. I can't set a target gen, only a max gen.
Unfortunately I may need some handholding with the drivers. I am still very new to component...

I have a keyboard and mouse attached, and it POSTs with the 1030 even if I don't. According to the manual (PDF), D6 is "No Console Output Device Found". MPG Z590 No display output with known working GTX 1060/RTX 3070, works fine with GTX 1030
I have a customer machine on my bench right now that's stumped all the techs, so I decided to come here for help.
The specs are:
MPG Z590 Gaming Carbon Wi-Fi (MS-7D06)
Intel core i9-10900kf
2x16gb Corsair Vengeance kit
BIOS ver is E7D06IMS.1B0, from 6/12/2023
The machine was brought in because it would not POST after a GPU upgrade from a GTX 1030 to an RTX 3070. The customer also brought in the original GTX 1030, as well as a GTX 1060 that the machine also wouldn't POST with.
I tested the 1060 and 3070 on my bench (ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming...

ASUS TUF FX5172Z DA0NJKMBAE0 Schematic
After some hunting I've managed to find the boardview, but I can't seem to find the schematic for the NJK model anywhere. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey guys, I'm kamiewtype! I'm pretty new to forums in general so please bear with me, and please let me know if I'm breaking any sort of etiquette. I'm a computer repair tech and I'm trying to get into component level repair. Nothing ruins my day like telling a customer they have to either get a new laptop or replace the whole motherboard when I'm sure it's just a bad mosfet or something.
