Vizio gv42l No sound No picture

I have a vizio gv42l fhdtv10a I have no picture or sound. I checked the back light and its not working nor can I see any display with the flash light test.

The vizio front emblem light turns on but that's it.. When you can turn the tv on you can hear it click and power up but that's it, also you have to unplug it to turn it off want respond to the power button or remote.

I did some reading and its pointing me to the back light inverter board, but the problem with that is everyone I see that had issues with that board had sound.
so should I replace the main board?

    Pictures of the boards?
Fuses on the main boards are OK?

Good clear pictures of the rear of the tv showing all of the boards is a good start.

You will at least need to have Digital meter to do simple resistance and Voltage testing otherwise you will be doing lots of board swapping.

ok that's understandable, I was thinking on getting one. IS there a certain one I need to get or just a standard cheap one.
also once I get one would you be able to walk me threw this

A good quality one is recommended, but if this is a one-off you might as well just get a cheapie. $15-$20 US would be the lowest I'd go. Anything cheaper is probably total garbage and a safety concern.

You may well find a better (but older) meter on eBay for a low price too.

As long as it has AC Volts, DC Volts, DC Amps, Resistance, and a Continuity\Diode test mode, it would be suitable. Other extra measurements like AC Amps, Capacitance, are useful but not needed and are not usually found in cheap meters anyway.
