    Sony KDL-52NX800

I have a friend coming to visit later this week from out of state. He's got an early Sonly LED Smart TV around 5 years old with the issue shown in the pictures I've attached. I didn't get a complete sets of pictures of the boards from him but just wanted some opinions on the problem. Anyone got a consensus on main, t-con, or panel? I'm thinking probably main board which is extremely expensive and almost impossible to find. The sharp t-con is also pricey but not quite as bad ($100 or so). Seems like the TV is worth spending some money on if it's appears to be fixable. Thanks in advance as always for the help!

Pardon the sideways pictures. Not sure what happened. They show correctly on my computer.

Any ideas on this? As you can see it uses a Sharp panel. I've never seen a TV with this T-con or main. It's somewhat of a high end TV.

Thought I'd bump this one more time in hopes that someone has seen a similar issue. He's been hanging on to the TV. Hate to tell him to trash it as I'm almost certain it's not the panel. On the other hand, I hate to have him throw money at a t-con if it may be a bad main board.

        Thanks again for any input.

We did remove, clean, and reset all the cables between the t-con, main board, and panel. No change.

Thanks for the input CapLeaker. I was hoping this wasn't the case.

You might try heating the tcon or main board with a hair dyer and see if it changes the display at all. The regularity of the pattern would seem to indicate more of a board issue than a panel problem, imo.

I would suggest looking thru this

as the sticky provides good information on how to go about things. My guess is a "troubled tcon".

Thanks. The T-con was my first guess if it's not the panel. I've repaired a heck of a lot of TVs but this issue was definitely new to me. I'm going to have him unhook each side of the T-con independently and see if the problem persists. If it does each with each side unhooked, I think it's worth a stab at a new T-con.

Thought I'd follow up on this and let everyone know that it was indeed the T-con. The problem persisted with either side unhooked so I figured it was worth a shot. He had to order it from China and it was $110 but a damn nice TV for that price. He paid nothing up front for the set.
