Samsung PN50A450 Horizontal Lines - Photo!

    Happy New Year to all!

    My first post here...

I inherited a big old Samsung 50" plasma tv with a number of black horizontal lines across the top of the screen as you can see in the attached photo. I've cleaned and re-connected the cables, and there are no obvious blown capacitors. The problem remains the same.

The Y-buffer board is HUGE, running the entire way down the left side of the TV. Part number LJ41-05986A Rev 1.0, which I think MIGHT be the culprit.

I'm pretty handy with a voltage meter... any thoughts on how to proceed with diagnostics?

Like most, I realize it's an old 720p TV that I don't want to drop a lot of coin into, but it seems a shame to haul it to the recycler just yet!

Could be the buffers--More likely the panel/tabs

Try to slightly bend the screen with both hands, one on each upper corner, does it change ? Also may try this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51SZsfH60EY

No change when I twist the screen.

I also checked for a ground to pins short as in the video you provided, and there don't seem to be any. I think I was doing it correctly, however the pins on the right side of the y-buffer board are much smaller than in the video. I've attached a photo of my board. The red arrow is where I placed the negative probe, (in the centre of the pins) and the yellow arrows are the pins I checked, (dragged the positive probe down both sides). No shorts.

Unless anyone can think of something else, I think the lines are caused by a bad panel.

          Thoughts? Anything left to try?

                Hello,

First of all I'm new here. While looking I found this amazing forum and I'm very happy I did. Now for my problem:

I picked up a Samsung UHD QLED QE50Q67TAU from 2021 for $50 knowing it was defective. The seller said it had black lines and that it could get stuck in boot randomly.

I've tried a new power cable, hard reset, opening up and jiggling all cables, pressing everywhere to see if I get a reaction but I've gotten nothing. I've tried the tape method but I've only managed to get the lines worse.

I'm no expert but I've done the tape...

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. I initially thought it was tab bonding failure, but after getting down to them and pressing each one I find zero change in the picture. I went...

I just acquired this 3D LED yesterday and it has horizontal lines on a little more than half of the screen. When I first turn it on it has thin black lines going across that makes the image look serrated, and then shortly after patterns of thicker red lines fade in. If I turn it off and right back on it will reset to just the black lines and the red will again fade onto the screen.

I initially thought tab bonds, but flexing the bezel makes no difference, and the fact the image sort of resets after cycling power is different. I haven't opened it up yet to actually test applying...

Samsung QE50Q60TAU - Horizontal screen lines
                by Runlinc
Hi everyone, the tv was in a continuous reboot cycle. To get the best screen image i can I taped the VGH and VSS pins on the left side buffer board joining ribbon.

I am left with a good image apart from the black horizontal lines that I cannot get rid of.

I cannot find anything on the buffer boards that has shorted.

Do you think there is anything i can do to eliminate the lines, or are they caused by an internal panel short and the image cannot be impoved.

                Many thanks for your assistance
