    Sharp LED vertical lines

    Hey all,

    First off tv specs:
    Sharp LED 60 inch
    Model # lc60-le810un

So my girlfriend brought this tv over completely dead asking if I could see about fixing it....I agreed. Troubleshoot it, the tv is one of those back light led tvs with the lcd screen. It throws up a 1-1 error code with no picture which I know is a back light error and could be the power supply or the damn back light LEDs. So, I order the new power supply, same issue. Now the fun begins, take apart the entire tv, lift the screen and test the LED strips, sure enough on of them are out. I replace the led strip and re-assemble the tv. Boom picture....but it isn't good. I notice vertical lines on the right and also small vertical dark lines on the left. I have attached a picture. Can I ask you vets, could this just be a t-con board or further damage such as a cracked LCD screen? I ordered another t-con board and should get it next week.

Needless to say, this has been a nightmare.

    Many thanks in advance!
    Cheers,
    Carl

Unfortunately the line on the left looks like you may have disturbed one of the gate driver boards too much when the panel is out of the TV. Did you flex those boards back and forth or tug on them on accident? I would go through and check all ribbon connections from the tcon to the panel also the LVDS cable is going to the tcon you may want to reseat them

The light area on the right looks like a issue with the way the ribbon cables are seated in to the board. Also again try to reseat the cables

Yeah, I'm not to sure I tried not to disturb them too much but this was a bigger job than I've even done so its entirely possible that I flexed them...assuming I did disturb them, there is no fix for that then eh? As for the lines on the right, I took out the ribbon cables, used an eraser on them and then cleaned them all off and reconnected....same picture as what you see in the pictures sent. If I can find a fix for the vertical lines on the right this tv could be tolerable as a basement tv.

Well, tried cleaning all the connections on the T-Con and still have the same picture, I do have another t-con board coming in the mail but I just wonder if it is even worth the hassle or just piece this monster out on eBay. It definitely looks like the right side should be able to be fixed though.

As for reflowing the t-con...honestly baking the electronics has always made me a bit nervous but since I am getting a new t-con board I might as well try. What would be the recommended time and temp 450 for 5 minutes?

Well whenever I have to do a reflow job that doesn't involve using my hot air rework station I used to put them in the oven at 450 for 8 minutes. However I would not attempt to reflow that tcon board on your TV since you mentioned you have another one coming. Wait to see what that new board looks like on your TV. Yes if the picture remains the same it's time for you to decide to either keep it or part it out. Because it's definitely a panel issue

You should check the tcon cables at both ends, the end at the tcon AND the end at the bottom edge board. I think the black line on the left is a tcon issue while the lines on the right could be a poor cable connection but also a bad tab driver between the bottom edge board and the panel. I think there was another set / thread (vizio) posted where the person had a similar set and a replacement tcon did improve things so fingers are crossed.

Actually, I think now the other way around. Right side is a poor connection from the tcon, while left is a tcon problem... maybe

Well I'll be sure to update once I get the new t-con board! In case that doesn't work, does anyone have a need for a tv that is half bad lol?

                    Re: Sharp LED vertical lines

Well, yet another update. Dissaembled the tv again and plugged it in with the edging off. Boom no weird banding on the right and no dead pixel vertical line on the left. The only problem is when I put the plastic cover and metal edge back on those issues in the first post re-appear. I'm shaking my head here. What would you folks recommend. I attached an updated photo not that it will do much good lol. I'm totally scratching my head on how to fix this, yet I should be relieved.

That's actually good.... I think. What input are you showing with that picture? Your metal edge is probably touching something that it shouldn't be. Inspect things very carefully... I would see if you could put some sort of tape or insulation material everywhere to keep the metal away from any edge boards. Make sure the edge boards are properly seated in their holders. Post some pictures of the back and metal cover in place and removed... might help.

You need to provide some form of picture on the screen to help with the evaluation.

My guess is that there is some sort of "short" near / around the area of the black line in the first pictures... just a guess though.

That's great news I agree somethings touching or rubbing or pushing against one of the ribbon cables were not supposed to. What happens when you play a little pressure around the perimeter the panel on the metal support bars?

                          Re: Sharp LED vertical lines

Well, some "jerry rigging" later and leaving out 4 screws on the metal edge and we are there. Picture is golden...I only have it on standard definition but it will do. As I type this I am noticing a small blue line on the left so I will have to keep playing with this. But I think the tv is back in business.

Thanks all for your input and help. Now I have to figure out how to offload all those extra parts lmao...anyone in need of a power supply and a t-com?

                          Cheers,

Sure am, and it is a small world! I currently live in Clinton Twp. I was living downtown for 3 years when I was at Quicken Loans, I love it down there, and miss it. The sacrifices we make for our significant others lol...
