LG 60PA6500 image blanks after power on

I have an LG 60PA6500 that quit. It's only 3 years old. Needless to say I won't be buying another LG.

Anyway, it was last used watching broadcast television on channel 57-1 with sound off (I use optical to receiver for sound).

When I power it on now, it powers up on 57-1, shows an image for 2-3 seconds, blanks for 2-3 seconds but still shows the 57-1 channel indicator, image comes back for 2-3 seconds, and then it permanently blanks but the channel indicator remains on. I have sound through the optical cable but all controls on the television and remote do not respond.

The only way I can shut it off and turn it on is by yanking the plug. One time when plugging it in it actually stayed on, but the channel indicator remained on the screen and all controls were non-functional.

I am an electrical engineer and have all the tools and goodies. I just need some direction here.

Re: LG 60PA6500 image blanks after power on

i am in now way an electronics tech but i have learned a lot from many of the guys on here

first thing i would do is remove the back cover check for any visible defective components like bulging/leaking caps

take clear and focused pictures of the board lay out and individual pics of the boards

also there should be a sticker with voltage specs and you can do preliminary testing with a DMM

someone with way more knowledge will comment soon and guide you in the right direction

Re: LG 60PA6500 image blanks after power on

Here are pictures of the boards. I can find no visible problems.

I'd appreciate some thoughts from someone with experience fixing plasmas.

Do you have another input you can test the TV on for example HDMI or analog input?
        Or another channel?

All controls are dead. I can't switch inputs.

OK, on the CTRL board you can see a pair of holes on the bottom right hand of the board marked EXT AUTO GEN.

Turn the TV power off (unplug the set)
Place a wire link between these holes
Disconnect the LVDS cable between the main board and control board
Plug the TV in...do the test patterns cycle continuously?

                  YES!

I saw a number of solid primary colored screens cycle by, and also some with black/white/grey patterns scrolling through.

I would suggest shopjimmy but their stupid IP policy means any non-US addresses are blocked, so I can't tell you for sure.
Check using EAX number rather than EBR number.

So I hooked the main board back up to the CTRL board and the tv works fine now?

It's temporary. A problem going away on its own will come back just as easily. Probably a BGA soldering failure or failed flash memory

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
                              by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

                              Hi friends

I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...
