LG 55LE5400
when initially turned on it shows the left half of the LG splash screen then fades to a blank (black) backlit screen which then eventually fades to a left-half gray, right half black backlit screen. no image is visible.
its my friends tv and he said that when it failed "it had sound but no picture"
i have not been able to switch the inputs in such a way to hear any sound. but as i am feeling around blind, i dont know if i am switching the inputs at all. with many tvs, pressing twice on input will switch you to the next input. but some tv's menu's require you to press other buttons to select the input from the menu which comes up, and then even press some other button to confirm the choice... which can be pretty hard [hard to justify the time spent to $ earned] to figure out when you cant see anything.
i searched before posting and this tv's model didnt come up in the forum so i figured i'd create a new post and see what the people say.

if i could actually change the input and hear some audio coming from the tv, as my friend claimed was the case, then i would still only know for sure that it was a problem either with the panel, the tcon, or the mainboard.
anyway i took some pictures of the splash screen it shows, and the black/gray that it fades to eventually.
im probly going to open the back and mess with the tcon cables and see what that does but i might not get to that tonight. i would appreciate your educated guesses as to what the problem is, purely from looking at the 2 pictures.
thank you
