My tcp50g20 shuts off intermittently, sometimes it'll stay on for an hour, other times shuts down every couple minutes. It usually shuts off and restarts immediately. Less often it shuts down for a minute and then displays" an error has been detected and recovered". I did replace the A board to no change so reinstalled the original. Removed the main power board and visually inspected, no obvious failures or scorch marks. I downloaded the manual posted here and checked Vsus, P15V, and Vda. All 3 check ok. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'll just give you the same response.
strange 2 boards doing the same but it's not impossible to get a dud board secondhand so could very well be 2 bad boards. random shutdown and restart sounds like the A board has been heat affected.
All i could suggest is returning the board and see if you can get another.
I've had a 50U20 which is equivalent oto a U2 and is the same generation and cheaper version of a G20 with a bad A board which would shut down and screen would go blank restart and some kind of message saying the TV had shutdown, was the A board.
next A board after running for a while picture started to flicker and get red/blue bars, 3rd A board fixed it -

ETA: as to heat affected, if I start TV from cold it seems to stay on the longest. Once it's warmed up the shut down cycle seems to increasingly shorten. Hmm.Comment

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
Hmmmm Time to try blow some heat with a hair dryer on or around the chip on the main board ( try one chip at a time )and see if you will get rapid shut down and if you do then shut the set down and use some freeze spray to see if the chip will recover and turn the set on and stay running for a while .Comment

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
Thanks for the reply. I actually have tried 2 replacement A boards, both with no positive result. I was starting to lean toward power board, but again no visual signs front or back and it was solidly secured to allow ground through screws.

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
Well it may be then , they're usually very robust those powerboards, I can't suggest where to start but a reflow or see if you can score a board cheap, should be plenty around since they rarely give a problem. intermittent problems very hard to nail, I thought my suggestion was pretty accurate but if you've tried 2 you may have to just give a P board a go.

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
something else too to think about. i've been thinking what is the chance of a defective P board for this and I can't think of how.
the reason being if this is the case of a voltage loss then the TV should by rights shutdown, stay off and error blink because all the voltages are monitored.
the fact it generates a message seems this is more like an executed reboot of the main board due to some anomaly which may be triggered by whatever it's processing at the time.
I don't know how you guys watch TV , we have free-to-air broadcast, but I'm wondering what do you have connected to this? Maybe it's worth isolating devices connected to it and see if it stops this reboot business.
If the issue is not on the A board, I doubt it's P board, could be an external device connected to it.??
HDMI ?
may also explain why 3 boards same result, might not be the TV.
i wonder if it's worthwhile checking you have the latest firmware? If updating I'd have nothing else connected to the TV just in case they are the shutdown cause. You don't want it to cycle part way thorugh or it'll end up bricked i'd expect.

This TV is used as a secondary on my satellite system. It's fed by a coax cable (480i). At first the TV began the shutdown cycle followed shortly by failing to recognize the signal from the satellite. I confirmed with an extra TV that the signal from the satellite was good, as well as using an over the air antenna the TV recognized the antenna signal. I do have a Blu ray player connected to the arc HDMI input that is rarely used. The blu-ray plays fine but the shutdown persists.
When these problems first arose I ask myself "what has changed recently?". I had installed a wireless LAN that plugs into the HDMI 3 and is powered by a wall receptacle. I used it briefly, twice, to mirror my phone screen. Once the TV began mafunctioning I removed it and have left it aside.
Here's where I include info I should from the beginning. After reading the stickies above, I did a factory reset. Immediately, the TV began to once again recognize the satellite signal. However, my elation was quickly tempered by the shutdown cycle resuming. After reading your posts I realized that I had not done the factory reset until AFTER I had tested both replacement boards. Obviously, this renders my assessment of those two boards not changing the situation as very questionable.
So, at this point I hope to find another board and see how it performs post reset. Also, as to firmware, I had downloaded current firmware to an SD card and inserted it in the TV slot but it did not recognize. I just tried again as the first time was pre reset. It now recognizes the card and file but says Media not playable.
Thank you again for your direction. I wanted to include a little extra info since you seem to have zeroed in so well without it. I'm off to find a new a board and hopefully can report the performance after having reset the TV.Comment

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
no doubt you went here for the updates. SD needs to be formatted in FAT16,32,exFAT
http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/...down_navt.html
When you say media not playable, is it trying to play it in a media player instead of the automated update process?
did this screen come up?
just ried it on mine but I already have it so it quits but tok several insertions of the SD, contacts must be dirty on mine, to get it to trigger.
Hope the 3rd card solves it, if so you've been real unlucky having 2 boards with the same issue.
can't wait for the next update, this has me very perplexedLast edited by tw2005; 10-18-2015, 12:00 AM.Comment

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
thanks for the link.I did download it off the Panasonic site but what you have given is far more detailed. I will try that. In the meanwhile I do have a board that shipped out this morning, should be here mid week, but a second question. The TV shut down and remained shut down. It's giving me 13 blink error code I have not been able to find what that is trying to tell me. does anyone know what a 13 blink code means on the specific model?

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
usually means bad A board, not sure if it's the same cause as what they mention in the 2011 guides but they simply say replace A.

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
Got new A board installed last night. TV came on and I left it on for 3 hrs, didn't shutdown once. Worked fine this morning, came on this evening, not a hint of trouble. Checked hdmi(arc) through home theater, all is well. My interest in taking on a repair has been piqued by this site. Maybe I'll learn something that can be of use to others here eventually. Thank you for the direction, especially tw2005. Utimately, the factory reset allowed me to assess the problem and the TV to recognize satellite signal. I'm now going to poke around and see what I can find about recovering data from an external HDD. Thanks again, I'm thrilled to get tv back and running.Comment

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
I think ultimately the previous boards not working falls to my fault. I didn't do the factory reset that allowed tv to recognize satellite signal until after I had tried the first two. So, it seems reasonable to say the boards may have been ok, but since tv wasn't recognizing a signal I assumed boards didn't fix problem. Lesson: try reset first, then address additional problem?
Thanks again, you helped breathe new life into my tv, and I may have even learned something.Comment

Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on
First, let me answer your previous question directly. The firmware downloaded to my SD card no problem. It updated tv even though it shut down in process. So, I now have the firmware available on a SD card. The site you provided states update is from 2013. Do you think that will be final update or do manufacturers continue to provide updates for older models?

I would say that's it for updates. recently youtube stopped working on mine as the app loaded is no longer supported. I contacted panasonic here and they said they looked into it but not possible, this affected later models too.
So I'd say they're not terribly interested in updates.. it's all money i guess.Comment

A board was the correct fix. I'd like to be able to figure out the failed component and have a backup board if the need arises. Realistically, it may just be available to cannibalize.
I thought the firmware updates were probably not going to continue. Thanks for the info and I thought I'd just make a final post that the A board was the problem in case others experience the same problem.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

The panel is primed as there is a slight glow from the entire panel. This means the problem should be logic related. The service manual also confirms this and recommends replacing the A or the D board.
