• Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on

TV used daily for over a week no problems so I'd say the
A board was the correct fix. I'd like to be able to figure out the failed component and have a backup board if the need arises. Realistically, it may just be available to cannibalize.

I thought the firmware updates were probably not going to continue. Thanks for the info and I thought I'd just make a final post that the A board was the problem in case others experience the same problem....

First, let me answer your previous question directly. The firmware downloaded to my SD card no problem. It updated tv even though it shut down in process. So, I now have the firmware available on a SD card. The site you provided states update is from 2013. Do you think that will be final update or do manufacturers continue to provide updates for older models?

I think ultimately the previous boards not working falls to my fault. I didn't do the factory reset that allowed tv to recognize satellite signal until...

Got new A board installed last night. TV came on and I left it on for 3 hrs, didn't shutdown once. Worked fine this morning, came on this evening, not a hint of trouble. Checked hdmi(arc) through home theater, all is well. My interest in taking on a repair has been piqued by this site. Maybe I'll learn something that can be of use to others here eventually. Thank you for the direction, especially tw2005. Utimately, the factory reset allowed me to assess the problem and the TV to recognize satellite signal. I'm now going to poke...

well I downloaded update and got as far as initializing, but it clicked of and is now bricked. unplug and replug I get no relay and solid red light.

ETA: back on. I think i'll try factory reset and reinitiate firmware update. hope tv stays up long enough...

thanks for the link.I did download it off the Panasonic site but what you have given is far more detailed. I will try that. In the meanwhile I do have a board that shipped out this morning, should be here mid week, but a second question. The TV shut down and remained shut down. It's giving me 13 blink error code I have not been able to find what that is trying to tell me. does anyone know what a 13 blink code means on the specific model?...

Thanks for your time and trouble on this. Since you seem to have zeroed in so well with incomplete information, I thought I'd add a more complete rundown of what has happened, specifically with regard to inputs.

This TV is used as a secondary on my satellite system. It's fed by a coax cable (480i). At first the TV began the shutdown cycle followed shortly by failing to recognize the signal from the satellite. I confirmed with an extra TV that the signal from the satellite was good, as well as using an over the...

I certainly defer to your expertise and experience with this specific model. I have no problem trying another if I can locate one. I suppose I might as well before they become even more scarce. This has been a great TV and the panel is still perfect. I don't think I can get anything comparable anymore so really appreciate the help in keeping it going. I'll report back....
Hmmmm Time to try blow some heat with a hair dryer on or around the chip on the main board ( try one chip at a time )and see if you will get rapid shut down and if you do then shut the set down and use some freeze spray to see if the chip will recover and turn the set on and stay running for a while .
Thanks for chiming in. I'll have to grab some freeze spray and give it a shot. Any component in particular to focus on?Re: panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on

Thanks for the reply. I actually have tried 2 replacement A boards, both with no positive result. I was starting to lean toward power board, but again no visual signs front or back and it was solidly secured to allow ground through screws.

ETA: as to heat affected, if I start TV from cold it seems to stay on the longest. Once it's warmed up the shut down cycle seems to increasingly shorten. Hmm....

  • panasonic tcp50g20 shutting off/on

My tcp50g20 shuts off intermittently, sometimes it'll stay on for an hour, other times shuts down every couple minutes. It usually shuts off and restarts immediately. Less often it shuts down for a minute and then displays" an error has been detected and recovered". I did replace the A board to no change so reinstalled the original. Removed the main power board and visually inspected, no obvious failures or scorch marks. I downloaded the manual posted here and checked Vsus, P15V, and Vda. All 3 check ok. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • Re: Panasonic tc-p50g20 with 10 blinks

Hi. I've been trying to get my tcp50g20 back in working order but no luck. I'm a nooby and this seems to be the most recent thread so I thought I'd jump in. The TV will shut down and restart at random intervals. It's used as a 2nd TV off satellite so it's fed signal through coaxial in. It fails to recognize signal from satellite but does get signal OTA (But still shuts off on its own). I have tried to use the manual posted here but my TV gives a 13 blink error code and manual only goes to 12. I replaced A board and problem remains, so I reinstalled...
