No - the LEDs use a floating ground to balance current (external balancer using transistors), the ground is usually a few volts above the chassis.

The Anode of the LED string is connected to the output of the boosted converter, the Cathode of the last LED string is connected to the Drain of the PWM MOSFET, the SOURCE pin is connected to one end of the current sensing resistor, the other end is then connected to the boosted converter ground return.
The example shows 4 strings, two strings are connected in series to form one long string, so there are two long strings with two LED drivers.

OK, here are some pictures. Sun it was in an angle, sorry about the shadows.
I have measured again the Vled by using (-) from a capacitor and Tom you were right, it measures 189V.
LCD panel #, is the one Bud posted.

Check the DCV between the two legs of C6801, set the meter to >200VDC scale, keep a close eye on the meter when you first turn on the the TV to see if your meter is fast enough to show >200VDC on the meter before it settles down to lower Voltage.
The two LED string 1 and 2 do not look like to be connected in series as I thought after looking at the bottom side of the board.

Using Min/Max-Max, I have got 259.5V.
So, it seems like LED issue after all, am I right?

Yes, you have open circuit some where in the LED's string.

There is a harness with a male/female connector coming out from the LEDs.
I don't know what that is for.
Two blue wires goes into one of he connectors and the other two wires, which are black goes to the other connector and they both are connected together.

OK, I took it apart and to my surprise, the bottom right connector was fallen off, from the LED pcb. Maybe cold solder joint, or de-soldered from to much heat?
There is a top and bottom strip, which are basically made up from two half strips. Two wire connector, to each corner.
The back-light, turns on now and the power LED, stays green. Most likely, it is fixed. I need, to put it together.

After putting together the screen, I have double checked that the TV it still works and it worked.
I have fully assembled the TV and it went back to the 2x error code.
Took it apart again and now, another connector has fallen off.
After soldering that back, tried the other ones and they seemed to be sturdy.
Finally put it together and it's working. But, I will have to take the front screen off, because it's not perfectly clean.

My TV, would not update to the latest firmware(OTA only), but I have found a site, where it explains how to do it via USB. My version, it was 2.1 and the latest is 3.2(Honeycomb).

Hey I was hoping I could resurrect this thread? There's a lot of good information here, but I need a little help. I have a NSX40GT1 too and when I hit the power button it will start to turn on (so the logo lights up, no backlight though, and if i shine a flashlight I can see the screen start to show the boot logos) however it realizes the backlight doesn't turn on and then turns off, giving me a 6 red blink error code [rather than your 2 blink code].

One thing that I was able to do was cut the BL_ERR (tiny orange wire) that goes between the power supply and the logic board and I connected the logic board's end to the chassis [leaving the end connected to the power supply floating. This seems to let the TV ignore the backlight error and I was able to verify that the rest of the TV works fine, just there is no backlight.

I'm sorry, I know this is a couple years ago, but what's with the resistor and wires on the back of the board? My TV's power board certainly doesn't have that... Would messing with that potentially help?

So you found that the LED strip had disconnected wires? Last I took apart my TV to try and get it working they looked solid but I'll admit i didn't check continuity on the joints.



Would anybody be able to help me figure out what the correct standby and operating voltages are supposed to be for the Dimmer, BL_on, and BL_err wires are supposed to be? Also are they supposed to be signals from the logic board sent to the power supply, or are they signals from the power supply sent to the logic board to tell it what's happening?

When referencing to the chassis ground the 4 pin connector to the LED backlight has ~130volts, both when in standby and when I power the TV on. The 5pin connector to the LEDs is around 3-6 volts on both wires (when referencing the chassis ground) and the little black connector that comes out of the panel has 20V on it.

I'm sorry if this seems jumbled, I can clarify if anybody can help me. Could anybody please help me figure out the proper voltages are and help me diagnose/fix this TV??? It functions perfectly (except for the backlight, when I bypass the bl_err code) I've been trying on and off for years to get this dang thing fixed....

edit: I can supply pictures/test-point voltages too to help explain, please, please just ask. I'm sorry if this is supposed to go in a new thread, I was just hoping that you guys might be able to help since this thread is about the closest I have gotten to solving the problem i think...I've looked through so many forum posts trying to gather info for this dang TV
