SHARP LC-46D65E Dead power led blinking twice

    Hi All
Does any one have a list of the faults for blinking power led on these sets ?
I picked up this TV today when plugged in and the power button is pressed the green standby light comes on then after a while it starts to blink red twice and just repeats doing this nothing else happens.
I am including pictures of the power board and the main board with this post.

Re: SHARP LC-46D65E Dead power led blinking twice

      Hi All
Here is my progress so far with this set !!
After following a reset procedure as stated in the service manual (Kindly supplied by budm) This is what happened after pulling ac lead while tv was on i then held volume - and input buttons whilst plugging in ac lead and looking at screen for a K to appear. The K did not appear but what i did notice was that i was getting a short flash of the screen which looked like back lights trying to come on. after trying this procedure for a couple more times i was then rewarded with green power light staying on and back lights coming on and staying on, I then tried to connect hmdi and also scart from my sky box to see if tv would work. The tv stayed the same no picture or sound just back lights.
I then switched tv off and on again and it went back to the original fault of first green power light for about 10 seconds then the green light turns red and flashes twice repeatedly. Now according to the manual red light flashing twice is a 13.5v power board error so i will have to investigate this properly tomorrow after work. Since turning the tv off i have not been able to return to the green light staying on and back lights coming on.
So will return back to the set again tomorrow.
If any one has any more input to add it would be much appreciated ?

Re: SHARP LC-46D65E Dead power led blinking twice

I have an LC-32DH66E with a similar fault, continuous green flashing LED indicating "communication fault" turned out to be bad MLCC on buck regulator soft start pin for 3V3 power supply. Froze spray it and set came on straight away.

          Hi Tom
Thank you for your input when you say the green light flashes do you mean it turns red and flashes twice repeatedly or flashes green?
As I said in the manual it states flashing red twice indicates a 13.5v error on power board.

Re: SHARP LC-46D65E Dead power led blinking twice

Mine was doing the green flashing continuously.
Flashing red twice can be shorted inverter or bad solder joint on PSU.
I have a spare PSU for the 52" which I believe is identical, I can do some tests on it or send it to you if you like.

              Thank you Tom
I have not yet pulled out the power board , I will tomorrow after work and check for bad joints . I will keep you posted on the outcome. If no joy it would be nice to know I could try a replacement board to to see if that was where the fault was.If I need it I will let you know and gladly meet all costs for the board and p.p you would have to let me know What your costs would be and maybe I could transfer your funds through PayPal if you use this system.

                Hi Tom
I have now pulled the power board on this set and had a good look at solder joints on under side of board and could see quite a few that did not look to healthy so went about re-soldering them.
I then reinstated the board and powered up the set, only to be greeted with the same fault ?
Coming back to your other input that the inverter being short would i have still managed to get the back lights to power on if it was short?
I am including some pictures with this post again of main board resized and a couple of the power board was wandering if you manage to have time could you please cast your eyes over it and see if you can see anything obvious ?

Re: SHARP LC-46D65E Dead power led blinking twice

Unfortunately, your board is different to mine so I will not be able to help you there. I have the board for the LC-52XL2E.

Anyway, since the fault corresponds with UR_13V failure, perhaps try checking that on the power board first during the fault, note if it rises then falls or never rises at all, or if it works (which could indicate the main board is not detecting it correctly, an unusual fault but worth eliminating.)

If 13V is low or collapsing, I'd check the PS ON signal from the main board and make sure that's steady until it turns off. I'd also check the voltage across the 450V capacitor(s) to see if the PFC bus is working OK.

If powering on with the AC lead in then pressing on/off button the st/by led lights up green then changes colour to orange and flashes orange for nine flashes then changes colour to green for a second then you hear a buzzing noise and the back lights flash on/off then the st/by light turns red and flashes twice and keeps repeating the two flashes.
If pulling AC plug while st/by light flashing then set in on position when reinserting AC lead st/by light comes on stays green for 10 seconds you hear a buzzing sound and back lights flash on/off then st/by light flashing red twice repeatedly.
The OPC LED does not come on or flash at all

                          They look OK.
Please check and see if you do have 12VDC at connector PL pin PNL12V.

Reagrding to the OPC, it looks like you need to press MENU button on the remote:

[2] LED flashing specification at the time of the error
                          Display method
                          • Refer to Table 1.
                          • Make the OPC LED flash using the [MENU] key on the remote control since the display for service persons is identified by the number of flashings
                          (once to 5 times).
Even if the [MENU] key is pressed again, it does not return to the display for customers (only the power LED flashes).
                          • After recovering from an error, if the same error cannot be generated again, refer to MONITOR ERR CAUSE on the adjustment process screen.
                          LED flashing method
                          • Synchronize the phases of the power LED and OPC LED.
                          • If the LEDs have different number of flashings, adjust the flashing cycle to that where the LED flashes more times.

                            PL pin PNL12V.
I have 0v when off and 12.04v DC when on.
As regards pressing the menu on remote this is a problem as i have no remote with the set due to the customer miss laying it ? I have contacted him again but he still can not find it.
Only solution for me is to order one before i continue with the repair?.

                              That is good.
So far the 13V is OK, that is why I ask about the MENU button on the remote to see the OPC LED which will tell you more as to which circuit has failed.

                                    Thank you Tom
That is very kind of you i have been trying to source a remote and it seems i would have to send for one from Poland ! Which could take a while for it to arrive.
I would be very grateful for your remote even if you only wanted to loan it to me to carry on with this repair? or maybe you would allow me to purchase it from you i would gladly meet all costs including p.p.
If you want to private message me i could let you know my mail address and arrange how you would like me to pay. I do have a paypal account if that helps.
