You probably shorted something out on the driver board between the tcon and panel, strip it down a little to get to the board for testing, youtube may have some good videos.
Hi, my Sony kdl-40hx723 has a red blinking light 5 times, I tried changing the t-con but nothing happens only the 4 white bands on the screen change position as shown on the attached photos. The screen illuminate only for about 3 seconds then off again. I have attached 2 photos one for each t-con . What could be the problem? Please help
If 5 blinks is Tcon error, check for 12V on both sides of tcon fuse. If not present, check the SMD fuses on the main board since the 12V is switched from there. Bands/stripes are panel damage and may be unrelated. Do they appear with your old tcon board? Sony service manuals can be found online with schematics so you can trace the 12V supply to the tcon on the main board.
They appear on both the old and new t-con, they just change the location when I change the t-con. Is the 12v on the fuse suppose to be there even when the tv is not on?

The 12V for the tcon should be switched by the processor and only present when the tv is on. Odd that the fuse is in different locations. Did you match the tcon part number. Use shopjimmy as a reference.
Yes it's the same part number. Surprisingly at one point the tv powered on upto the sony logo for about 3 seconds but the letters of the word "sony" were inverted ,more like they are being viewed in a mirror
