Question I have seen alot of these board with yellow boxes(if you will). Is there a known problem with the grey ones.

I do not know but I know that they do fail (either grey, yellow, white, or blue) in capacitance value (capacitance goes down).

OK, so they are good, 1uF.
I need to do more tracing then. I really do not expect the two caps will show 0V when the TV is fist started since there is no open transformer or inductor windings.
Can you please verify for sure?

Nothing on the those 2. The blue disc looking thing. What is it and I did a resistance reading on it and got 12M ohms and open now.

The 4 blue disk on the board? They are X/Y Safety caps.

OK, the next thing to test will be the resistance between the chassis and each pin of the LED connector, the plug will have to be removed first from the board before testing the resistance. We are trying to find out if any one of the wire is shorted to the chassis.

The four on the right read 0 ohms and the four on the left read high resistance. I checked this yesterday. But couldn't remember the numbers. I'm beganning to think the led on the first ones are bad.

Did you check the resistance readings of the plug with the 8 grey wires removed and the readings are from the 8 grey wires against the chassis? They are not the resistance readings on the connector on the board right? because there are < 1 Ohms resistor on the board that are connected to GND (CHASSIS).
I will not be surprised if you have bad LED but we want to make sure there is not shorts to the chassis due to the wires to the LED strips are cut or nicked, that is why you need to remove the connector from the board first and check the resistance of those 8 wires against the chassis.

Yeah, that's what I did removed the 8 pin connector and checked each one to chassis gnd. the wires going into the panel.

OK, unless I am wrong, none of them should show any resistance to the chassis.
You can try measuring the Voltages on those four caps we did earlier to see if all 4 caps will show Voltage readings now on the two legs of each cap.

Ok ill check tomorrow. If I get voltage on the 4 caps does that indicate bad leds.

If you do get the Voltages on the caps, then I would say the wires going into the panel is nicked some where by the chassis so you get the resistance readings, bad led will not cause the shorts to the chassis.

Thanks for your help. But the person i was troubleshooting this decide to have Vizio repair it, for a much larger fee, of free.

Ah too bad, sure like to find what the cause of the problem is, thank for letting us know. If you can get a hold of the person and find out what they did to fix it, that will good.

I am working on the exact same model with a similar problem....the LED side lights are bad. My customer bought some used on ebay on my diagnosis. They arrived today. Plugged them in and there was light.

Now to disassemble the panel to replace the bad ones.

Ah too bad, sure like to find what the cause of the problem is, thank for letting us know. If you can get a hold of the person and find out what they did to fix it, that will good.

My guess is Vizio will replace the panel to fix the failed led side lights.

Anyone have a source showing how to disassemble this large panel?

I have done some smaller ones with ccfl back lights.
