Samsung LN46C600 audio but no pic

Hi. Been reading some similar problems on this forum but others seems to have something on the screen. Mine doesn't show anything at all on the screen. Was watching TV one day... left for 5 mi and when I came back, TV screen was black and no pic at all. However it sounds. Even the sound when I turn it on and off works. But screen black all the time. Don't know what to test first, if someone can guide me I will appreciate it. Thanks

Can look at the back of the LCD panel to see if it does have backlights or not?
Did you check the fuse (it is the fuse for the backlights inverter circuit) at the middle of the board?
You can also remove the cable between the main board and the power supply/inverter board and then power up the TV, the backlights should come on right away (the power supply board has built-in pull-up resistors).

      Hello,

I had one of these come through my shop recently. Just above the fuse in the middle of the board is capacitor ci818. I had a pile of about 5 of these boards from previous repairs that I ended up replacing the whole board. All of them had the same faulty capacitor. If removed from the board, you can feel a bump on one side of it where it bulged. Hope this info helps you out.

That is one of the common failure cap in SAMSUNG, it must be replaced with High pulse capacity cap type.
CI818 (0.47uf 450V), if it is bad, I would go for 630V or higher. Lead spacing is 22.5mm, need to verify the one you have on your board.

Ok. I just tried removing the right top cable on the board and turning TV on. Still black. Just hear the on and off sound. What fuse do I need to check and what capacitor?

I zoom in the pic I posted of my board and see that Ci818 with some white stuff and looks like some black on it. What's that white stuff? Sorry, not familiar with this. If I need to replace it, what do I need? Thanks

I cannot tell from the picture, but at this point you need to make sure the fuse is OK first.
You will need the capacitance meter to check its value, when this cap goes bad, the capacitance will drops a lot.

What do I need to check that fuse? Any multimeter works? Planning on buy one. Any instruction on how to check it?

So you do not have any test equipment, how about soldering equipment?
Digital Multi meter (DMM) will be needed, once you get one then you need to read user manual and go on line on how to use Ohm meter, Volt meter.
You are dealing with Voltage that can kill you so if you are a beginner, you should at least plug the TV into GFCI outlets.
You will have to remove the cap to check the capacitance, so I hope you really know how to solder.

Aztheroth, being in Iowa, there should be a Menards relatively close. I picked up my digital multimeter there for $12, and it's proven to be sufficient for these tests.

Honestly... last time I solder was on high school. 22 years ago. I need a fine solder pencil? And what tipe of soldering material? Going to Menard to get the dmm. And whatever else I would need.

After I get a miltimeter. How do I test this ci818 capacitor? Remove the board and test it from the backside? Dies that white cap cones off? Do I need to desolder the capacitor? Thanks

You need to remove the cap from the board without damaging the traces and the board, but as I indicated, check the fuse first.

You have to get the meter first then you set it to Ohm mode (resistance testing mode) at 200 Ohms range scale, the reading of the fuse should be about the same as the reading when you touch the two probes together.
You may want to take the board to local TV repair shop and ask them to check the fuse and remove the cap to test the capacitance.

I got a multimeter. Put it on 200 ohms and the fuse under that ci818 reads the same as the probes together. But what I put boar upside down and try on the 2 pins of ci818 it doesn't read anything. Or do I have to select something g different on the dmm?

The capacitor will show as open circuit when check with Ohm meter (if it shows resistance, then it is bad. Look up how the cap is constructed), you need capacitor meter to test capacitance, the cap has to be removed from the board.
So what kind of DMM did you buy? Any user manual comes with the meter?
