Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board

    Hi,
I have a Tcon board, 2009FA7M4C4L V0.9, out of a 46B7020. I got the TV with a fault and managed to repair it however I noticed some thin horizontal lines. So as I was trying to reposition the cables from the Tcon to the LCD an IC let out the magic smoke!
I'm having trouble identifying it. The markings on it are 17989 A851 and it has 32 pins. It's between the 2 ribbon connectors that go to the LCD and marked as IC18.

Any help identifying it, and/or suggesting a replacement would be appreciated.

Apologies for the not so great photos!

    Thanks

Seen this issue with lines before on these sets, If they are black and run left to right with equal spacing I am sure the panel is faulty.

P.S just get another TCON... Unless you are very competent on soldering fine pitch components

Re: Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board

      Thanks for the response.

I did a littledigging and found a lot of posts about this being a panel fault, however after looking at the following video I wasn't too sure,

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7vl7-vZEL8

I've soldered quite a few smd components using solder wick. It seems a shame to sell this TV for parts when I may be able to salvage it. I'd like to minimise any waste. A second hand Tcon board will set me back about $50, the component is probably around $1 and as I'm a student I'm on a tight budget.

Does anyone know what this IC does? It looks like it connects between the left and right ribbons. Maybe it makes sure the left and right data is displayed (lines held/refreshed) at the same time?

      Thanks

          Hi,
Thanks. That's very helpful. I can't seem to find any data on it or figure out what it does.
Maybe a gamma buffer? I'm new to LCD repairs so still learning.
I did find a few for sale on aliexpress though.
I think I'm going to buy this one and try it out,

          http://www.aliexpress.com/item/I7989...025687676.html

It would still be useful if anyone has any opinions on the youtube video I linked to in an earlier post. I couldn't clearly see what he was doing with the tape. I think it was just to apply more pressure to make the connection, but it seemed like he was covering some of the contacts which seems counter intuitive. I blew the original part as I was trying to reposition the ribbon while the TV was on and it must has shorted the chip. Any ideas?

          Thanks again

I ordered the part yesterday and will post back on here after I've installed it.

I'd still like to hear some opinions on what anyone thinks about the youtube video I linked to. Especially in regards to getting rid of the horizontal thin black lines.

            Thanks

well it is a samsung so bad panel is on the cards and being a 46" which seems to be a size with issues. I've got a samsung panel chinese Tv, 46", 2011 ERA 3d, AND THE PANEL IS SHOT, horizontal lines. Kogan TV, thread is still fairly recent so there's some shots in that to have a look at if you want to have a look.Swapped the tcon with no change.

Re: Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board

                Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I just looked at the following Kogan TV thread,

                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...light=kogan+tv

It doesn't appear to be the same problem. The panel isn't 3D either. The problem I had is more like the image at 6.52 in the youtube video above. Evenly spaced back lines that look about a pixel in height. The TV was still watchable like this. The i7989 blew when I tried moving the ribbon. At 5.27 in the above video, he attaches some tape to cover about half a dozen contacts on the ribbon. He claims to get rid of a double image and the horizontal lines. Quite a few people have thanked him in the comments.
I'll wait until I get the new component and fit it. I'll then post an photo of the screen when I get it running.

                Thanks

interesting fix, better than bad tab bonds but generally I stay away from LCDs, just happened to get that kogan for free to play with

So, I guess instead of applying pressure on the bad tab bonds, he's just insulated the lines with a bit of tape from the ribbon end. So, using this method he'd lose a few lines on one side of the screen?
Not sure if this would help me.
I'm curious why you avoid LCDs?Do you prefer Plasma TVs?

As far as things to fix I just find Plasma Tv more to my liking and I've never quite liked the LCD displays for TV. Been caught out with bad panels a couple of times.
I'm very much biased towards Panasonic Plasmas so I don't get too involved with LCD TV posts

I don't think he's doing that instead of tab bonds, looks like bad connection at the tcon.

I've not worked on a plasma yet, but think it could be interesting.
No doubt I'll be posting on here for advice when I get stuck on one.

                          Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

                          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                          Assuming...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
                          by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't

                          by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....
