Re: LG 47LM640T Lines, trying to start?
Guess it's cheaper not to include it, keeps sales up and they don't have to cover the damage in the warranty. Win, win for them!

Re: LG 47LM640T Lines, trying to start?
Well spotted. I think it looks like another return. The guy said he had it from new and it just stopped working. Said it hadn't been opened but some bits of tape were taken off, a screw missing and scratch marks on the screws.
You've saved me a lot of time. Thanks.

Re: LG 47LM640T Lines, trying to start?
Well looks like you're right again Tom. Someone must have spilt a drink down it :/
The traces don't look too bad. I might just clean it up, check the components and reflow the solder.
Sorry about the image quality.
Thanks for the help again....

Re: LG 47LM640T Lines, trying to start?
That's very helpful. Thanks Tom. I did have a look at them earlier to see if it was a TAB bond issue. They seemed to be OK. I'll have another look. If they seem OK, do you think it's likely to be the TCON/Main board?

Re: LG 47LM640T Lines, trying to start?
I just tried it again. When the left hand is plugged in(looking at the TV). The screen is almost bank, but seems to get brighter and dims. It doesn't respond to the remote. With the right hand side plugged in there are a few lines but no where near as many. The brightness changes continually but again no menus or anything else.

Re: LG 47LM640T Lines, trying to start?
I did try removing the cable to each half and the problem persisted on the side plugged in.
Would this mean it's more likely to be a TCON fault?
I found out the TCON and Mainboard are the same board on these.
Thanks

LG 47LM640T Lines, trying to start?
Hi,
As can be seen in the photos, there are lines all across the screen on this TV. The don't really change much. I've tried pressing the TAB bonds and nothing happens.
There is a stripe that moves up periodically- every few seconds like something is trying to start up maybe. I've tried to show it in the photos.
I've checked the DC voltages are present on the PSU board but haven't done much more yet. There doesn't appear to be a TCON on this unit, so I'm guessing it's either part of the mainboard or it's part of the panel.

Re: Advice on vertical lines/TAB bonds
It appears you were right Tom. Pressing the tabs made no difference. Nor did cleaning the TCON connectors. When I cooled down the edge of the panel where the line was it disappeared. So looks like an internal LCD fault?
The seller has agreed to let me return it for a full refund. He said he tested it for a couple of hours before. I told him that it would depend on a number of factors including the temperature of the TV when it was turned on.
I thought a TAB bond problem would be more common when dealing with a set with a vertical...

Re: Advice on vertical lines/TAB bonds
Hi Tom,
I like the Tesla pic. I went to Jodrell bank about a week ago. Afterwards I went to a place called Knutsford. I didn't realy like Knutsford much apart from the Tesla showroom. Didn't even know there were any in the north.
The TV is an older Toshiba so is actually made by them. I was surprised how many through hole components were in there. I think that I can fix it, just annoyed about the seller not mentioning it and the extra time required for the repair :/

Re: Advice on vertical lines/TAB bonds
That's what I thought. Just wanted to be sure. The guy I bought it from seemed to be in a hurry to get me out of the way, had the TV by the door so didn't offer to turn it on. It's from eBay, his feedback seemed good. Guess I'll send him a message and see if I can get some of the money back.
Thanks for the help.

Advice on vertical lines/TAB bonds
Hi,
I recently got an 40" Toshiba LCD TV. The seller said there was an intermittent issue with the sound but otherwise it was good.
After getting it home I turned it on and left it switched on for a while, After approximately 30 minutes 2 thin verticle lines appeared.
I know I can apply pressure to repair this but, I'd like to know if this could have happened through transporting it or is it just age related with hot/cold cycles, expanding and contracting the different metals in the bond. I was carefu getting it back and had it laid LCD sidedown flat...

Re: Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board
So, I guess instead of applying pressure on the bad tab bonds, he's just insulated the lines with a bit of tape from the ribbon end. So, using this method he'd lose a few lines on one side of the screen?
Not sure if this would help me.
I'm curious why you avoid LCDs?Do you prefer Plasma TVs?

Re: Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I just looked at the following Kogan TV thread,
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=43687&highlight=kogan+tv
It doesn't appear to be the same problem. The panel isn't 3D either. The problem I had is more like the image at 6.52 in the youtube video above. Evenly spaced back lines that look about a pixel in height. The TV was still watchable like this. The i7989 blew when I tried moving the ribbon. At 5.27 in the above video, he attaches some...

Re: Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board
I ordered the part yesterday and will post back on here after I've installed it.
I'd still like to hear some opinions on what anyone thinks about the youtube video I linked to. Especially in regards to getting rid of the horizontal thin black lines.
Thanks

Re: Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board
Hi,
Thanks. That's very helpful. I can't seem to find any data on it or figure out what it does.
Maybe a gamma buffer? I'm new to LCD repairs so still learning.
I did find a few for sale on aliexpress though.
I think I'm going to buy this one and try it out,

It would still be useful if anyone has any opinions on the youtube video I linked to in an earlier post. I couldn't clearly see what he was doing with the...

Re: Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board
Thanks for the response.
I did a littledigging and found a lot of posts about this being a panel fault, however after looking at the following video I wasn't too sure,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7vl7-vZEL8
I've soldered quite a few smd components using solder wick. It seems a shame to sell this TV for parts when I may be able to salvage it. I'd like to minimise any waste. A second hand Tcon board will set me back about $50, the component is probably around $1 and as I'm a student...

Trouble identifying IC on Samsung tcon board
Hi,
I have a Tcon board, 2009FA7M4C4L V0.9, out of a 46B7020. I got the TV with a fault and managed to repair it however I noticed some thin horizontal lines. So as I was trying to reposition the cables from the Tcon to the LCD an IC let out the magic smoke!
I'm having trouble identifying it. The markings on it are 17989 A851 and it has 32 pins. It's between the 2 ribbon connectors that go to the LCD and marked as IC18.
Any help identifying it, and/or suggesting a replacement would be appreciated.
Apologies for the not so great photos!
