Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
thanks for your post tibimakai,
i'll study your threads on the subject. i don't seem to be getting the 12 or 24volts out when i run the power supply in isolation with the power on jumpered to standby voltage. were you able to jumper and get 12/24v from the power supply disconnected from the rest of the boards?
i want to try to rule out the power supply before i move to the mainboard. tonight i will measure to see if the 'mode' pin of IC6301 gets grounded when jumpered on, and if the voltage on the main capacitor ramps up at this time as suggested in some other threads.
i saw another post where somebody mentioned a diode in the power supply that was bad and caused the IC6301 PFC not to work correctly.

I have fought, with two 46EX400 in the past, with two blinking codes and both time were bad mainboards.
On the second one, the third board(!) fixed it.Leave a comment:

i'll start a new thread. sorry for jumping in. i saw a few other threads where people do that and realised it is rude.Leave a comment:

Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
can i join this party? i have a kdl-32EX400 which is very similar power supply. it is g2le, and doesn't have any of the 'non' components present.
it does the two red light flashes
i've just got the power supply itself on the bench. i jumpered standby 3.3v to power on. i didn't use a resistor.
i haven't measured all the caps, but i have measured two:
------standby | jumpered to pwr_on
C6117 - 7.75v | 13.45v
C6118 - 8.00v | 13.89v
when i cut the mains, the standby voltage slowly rises to about 9v. why is that?Last edited by t4796; 02-23-2015, 09:10 AM.Leave a comment:

Awesome! That's the kind of reassurances I need!
Thanx.. I'll let you know how it goes in a couple hours..Leave a comment:

It's damn near impossible for a main board to kill a power board. Especially on the PFC side of all things... So I would not worry myself.Leave a comment:

Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
OK, going to play around with this pair today..
I got a new (assume to be working) power board for these SONYs... I also ordered a new A Board as well.. What the hell, you can never have too many parts, right??
Because there is some concern I have that my current A boards might be damaging the Power board, I am wondering if I should plug in the new Power board and see what happens??
Or should I wait til the new A board comes and install them as a set??Leave a comment:

Try unplugging the T-con board from the main board?
Really, really odd.Leave a comment:

Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
First off, I did put the 500 boards in the 400.. Still dead..
But the funny thing is, when I try a 400 board (either MAIN or POWER) in the 500, it's dead... But when I put the 500 boards back into the 500, it doesn't work right away.. I have to let it sit unplugged for a few mins and THEN the boards will work.. That is to say, it "works" as in giving me the 6 RED LED blinks, etc etc etc
Almost as if something on the 400 boards is shorted and causing the 500 to have to "reset" it self.
You can see why my mind is a bit frazzled...Last edited by Michale32086; 02-12-2015, 03:02 PM.Leave a comment:

Can you try swapping power & main from EX500 into EX400? (It could be power surge that has damaged the boards.)Leave a comment:

Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
OK, let's add a little fun twist to the saga...
I just got in another Sony. KDL-40EX500
The only different I can tell between the two is the extra connector going to the T-CON Board. (Pictured)
Now, let me see if I can explain it...
The NEW acquisition (EX500) when it's plugged in, the power LED blinks red 6 times.. When I power it up, the red LED goes out, the green LED comes on. I see the SONY emblem on the screen for a sec or two, here the SONY tone. That happens 3 times. Then the green LED goes out and the RED LED starts blinking 6 times again...
Now, I figure I can kill two birds with one stone or, in this case, fix two TVs with the parts...
Of course, it's nice in theory...
When I put in the Power PCB from the EX400 into the EX500, I get nothing. No power lights no green lights no nothing...
When I put in the Main Board PCB from the EX400 into the EX500, I ALSO get nothing. No power lights, no green lights no nothing...
And the converse is also true.. When I put the Main Board PCB and the Power PCB into the EX400 from the EX500, I get nothing..
I hope I explained that clearly because, in my mind, it's a MAJOR jumble, a total SNAFU...
As Tom Cruise said in A FEW GOOD MEN...."I don't know what all that means, but it sounds pretty bad.."Leave a comment:

Found a 4.7uf 50v Capacitor.. Replaced it on the Sony..
No Go.... Knew it couldn't be THAT simple...Last edited by Michale32086; 02-11-2015, 12:29 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
Also, what's the p/n of that 7pin chip near C6115. I think it's ok as you've got stby but I just want to check 0V on that cap is normal (could be the burst/fault timer, if so its ok. Looks like the pfc/multi ic has the right supply so thinking that its probably bad.Leave a comment:

Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
OK
C6115 0v
C6117 14.29v
C6118 14.53v
C6323 14.28v
I'll try that trick with the IC as soon as I can dig up some chalk..Leave a comment:

Re: Dead As A Doornail. Sony KDL-40EX400
Usually, I find I can gently bend over the capacitor to probe the leads. (Only do this with power off -- the top of the cap is often live!)Leave a comment:

C6115 is dead... .000v
I am going to have to get under the board to check the rest.. It will take me a few...Leave a comment:

by bohabohaHello to everyone in this wonderful forum.
I have this SONY LCD TV KDL_46R473a
PSU GL5 APS350 :1-888-122- 12
MAINBOARD FY13_EU IP-012C101-4010
black screen ,no STB no life almost death.
on PS all the required volts are present 394V on the main cap and those on cold side 12.41V,3.45 and 3.45 are on
Also 3,5,and 12v are on.
nothing happens if i disconnect the PSU from the mainboard as on Samsung because here i think the mainboard gives the signal to the ps.
don't know what to do next all suggestions and advice are very welcome... -
by TalynHi,
My Sony W905 started to turn itself off an on every few minutes and blinking 8 times red in standby. A few minutes later the tv was completely dead.
I can only hear the click of the PSU when attaching/detaching the power cable. No standby LED.
Any advice? Thanks! -
by mrsithHello again lifesavers.
I have a KDL-55W755c that came in dead - not even standby light going on. Tested the power supply - all correct. Tested the output pins on the Led driver board (in which the power cord plugs in) - all seemed fine.
I got a service manual for this model and tested the DC/DC converter by checking voltages on selected components. Every voltage was present where it should be. Service manual says that in this case a "Muffin" replacement is needed. This is the moment where I got stuck as I wasn't able to Google my way through it - till this day I... -
