Sony KDL-70R550A 5 Blinks

Hello all!

I am trying to fix my Sony 70R550A LED TV.

1: TV had no picture, and no sound, but backlight came on and status light stayed green.

2: If I removed the Tcon from the TV, the symptoms didnt change.

3: If I unplugged only the left ribbon from the Tcon to the LCD, the display
would show vertical lines where the logos would be (see pictures).

4: I ordered a new T-con from Sony Parts. My Tcon is a RUNTK-5348TP-ZA and they sent me a RUNTK-5345TP-ZA, which according to google is for a Vizio M601D. The shipping label says "Part ordered - RUNTK-5348TP-ZA, Part sent - RUNTK-5348TP-ZA". ShopJimmy lists it as a substitute part for the 5348, but i'm not sure how much I can trust that.

5: When I installed it, the TV now shuts off and blinks 5 times.

6: If I unplug both Tcon-LCD ribbons now, the TV stays on with a green status light but no picture.

Is the part I recieved wrong? Or do you think the panel itself is dead?


I had a post a few days ago, but this issue has changed and that post is burried. If I need to copy/paste this there and delete this post I can do that.

I dont really know how to do that without the picture. Manual says to plug in the USB and go to "settings." I cannot get to settings without being able to see

See what you can do with a dark room and a flashlight. It'll be tough, but could be worth the hassle. I but I picked up a nice Sony a few weeks ago for one of the bedrooms, it had either a 5 or 6 blink error. Updated the firmware and it's been right as rain since.

I cant see a thing. There is absolutely no picture. The backlight comes on just fine

Oh, I misunderstood. Tough spot, then, unless someone is familiar enough to offer step-by-step key presses so you can do it blind.

If you remove the cables between the LCD panel and the T-CON board then the TV stays on then it sounds to me that it has bad driver ICs or component on the LCD panel, this is the same on the other thread, right?
The bad thing about this T-CON is that the test points are not label for us to check VGH, VGL Voltages.

IC301 is more likely to be the one that generates the Voltages.
You may be able to look up the spec sheet to do some Voltage checking.

In both Tcons, with both LCD-tcon ribbons unplugged, the TV stays on. With the left cable plugged in, the tv stays on and displays vertical stripes. With the right cable plugged in, the original Tcon leaves the TV on with a black screen, the new Tcon causes the TV to shut off and blink 5 times.

that could work, if someone has same model tv or the directions for remote presses.

I have this tv but in 50 inches, i can assist with a firmware update. Do you want to do it through usb or wifi?

Do you have steam, maybe we can message on there.

Hi Kenny...did you fixed you 550A? I have same issue of that, no sound, no picture and blinks red led 5 times. Which board did you changed?

I bet the TV is shutting down to protect the t-con board from shorting out just like the other sharps and vizios do when there is a panel failure. Do you have a white cable that's a flat ribbon style that goes from the bottom boards on the panel to the side drivers? You could attempt to disconnect both of these cables that go from the bottom boards to the side boards on the panel you should see the cable flaps that hold them in and then try powering it up with your new t-con board with both ribbon cables connected to the t-con

I have the 70 with 5 blinks.....can you help ?

My offer of help was for someone who had no blink codes. Could access their tv just couldnt see the screen. Im sorry i can not.

Hi peterwong19660110, have you find any solution for your TV. I have Sony KDL-40HX800 model tv and started receiving the 5 blink error code, no picture or sounds. Replacing the T-Con board would help ?
