Alba LCD32947DVDHD black and white picture on dvds

Hey guys,

I have an alba tv with built in dvd, everything is fine other than the dvd player is playing dvds in black and white, even the dvd screen when there's no disk inserted is black and white, I thought it might be regional settings but I don't appear to be able to change those.

Any ideas?

Tell us what you have tried? - opened it up and reseated the cables/wires?

Try this
First go to DVD Setup Menu then press the remote control code 1357.
The DVD service menu will appear
Change VIDEO to CVBS

yeah I've disconnected and reconnected the cables, ensuring they were firmly in place. I'm just trying to find this DVD set up menu now.

I can access the service menu with the code 4725 but there's nothing in there for the DVD settings, am I being an idiot and missing something simple?

Click the "DISPLAY" button on the remote
you should now see the DVD Menu.
Make sure to the screen shows the tab “Video”.
Press the consecutive numbers “1”, “3”, “5”, “7”
The DVD service menu will appear

Ah, that's why I can't access it, when I hit the display button on the remote, nothing happens.

There should be no disc when you hit the button.
No luck ?
then the DVD eeprom is corrupted, changed the image to black and white,
but also change the IR protocol,
therefore you can not use your remote to control DVD

check the "display" button is working with digital camera.

All the DVD buttons on the remote are unresponsive, can't play without pressing on the side, can't stop, pause etc.

Yeah there was no disc in at the time, would the error be on the board connected to the DVD drive itself? so changing the drive as a whole would resolve the issue?

Is it the sort of remote where you have to press a "dvd" button (as against a "TV" button )first to access the rest of the dvd buttons.
Is there a light on the tv that flashes when you press a button on the remote?
Is it an original remote?

No button to put it into DVD mode, theres like a sectioned of square at the bottom for DVD controls, it appears to be the original remote, I'll do a quick google search to confirm it.

You must have a button to change between
scart, hdmi, dvd, vga
How about the SOURCE button ?

It's strange to me how half of the remote works but the other doesn't but all that's not working is DVD related, so is the fault with the built in DVD unit itself or is it with the other board?

As I said, there are two IR protocols.
One for television receiver as you look through the 4725 Code,
the other is for the DVD.
If it is not the same as for television,
the buttons for DVD will not work.
A link with the same problem, the same remote control,
the same card and a solution.

That's interesting how that can happen, so my best bet would be to buy the Toshiba RC1911 remote and turn it back to RC5 through the DVD menu? I don't quite follow what was being said about programmable remotes it would be much easier for me to get my hands on a programmable remote

Update:

As I was looking through my mountain of remote controls, I came across a spare DVD drive which looked similar. It turned out to be exactly the same and it now functions as it should!

The remote works correctly and I can now access the menu mentioned before, I can't believe I had the part laying around this whole time!

Make sure to keep other drive for spares.
