          Re: 42" Magnavox trouble

Thought I would try to revive this thread since I have this exact TV. It has the notorious two seconds to black. My question is concerning the Inverter power supply board. There are pins marked 345v. When I test those, I only get 160v when i power on the TV. If im reading the service manual right, It needs to send the 345v over to the main board. The backlights briefly turn on and then the TV shuts down. If I unplug CN1803 that runs to the actual backlight inverter, the TV doesn't shut down. I bought a used inverter board off of ebay. No luck! Still two seconds to black. Im thinking the inverter transformer on the power supply may be shorting when a load is put on it. But I dont know much. just like trying to repair junked electronics. Any advice and guidance would be appreciated Thanks.

Alot of times a bad transformer will give you the "2 sec. to black" condition. Use an old bulb laying over the transformers or the small blue caps then turn on tv and watch for the bulb to glow on where there are caps or transformers. If you see a pattern and one part of bulb is not lit its a bad transformer. If they all light up the bulb, you may have a bad bulb in your set. There will be a blackness at the ends of it.

Thanks tvtimmy. I'll give that a try when I get home. What type of bulb? A CCFL? Or can I use another type? I don't have another CCFL to use.

Can we see good clear pictures of YOUR boards and the whole back side of the TV?

Update on my progress. I found a reasonably priced power supply board so I gave it a shot. Installed it, TV powered up and stayed on! I thought, well that was worth $40 bucks. Stayed on for two hours, then shut down! Same situation as before. 2 seconds to black! I may have to take up drinking!

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                        Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.

                        by Hakuu
                        Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

                        Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
                        by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board

                        Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V

                        Pin 05 "STBY 3.3V": 3.5V
                        Pin 06 "GND": N/C
