I sent in this board to get repaired and was told it was not repairable. This is the reponse i got does this make sense.
The item referenced above was sent to our Repair and Return program. Upon evaluation of your part by our Technical team, we have determined your part is Beyond Economical Repair and cannot be serviced. The technician notes on this order was corrosion on connector SU3 etching is gone.
You will not be charged for services rendered on your order, and we can properly dispose of this board for you at no additional charge. Please respond with your preferred disposition. I asked why and if they tried to repair it and how much would it cost to ship it back. They responded,
Yes, the tech replaced 2 IC's and that was when we discovered the corrosion that had gotten into the internal trace etching of the board. These etchings are the copper trace's on the board that connect the components. Your board actually has these trace's that are in between different layers of the board and the corrosion has gotten into these. We can detect this corrosion but are unable to repair it. We do not charge for an order if they are unable to complete the repair even if we have parts and labor in it. There is no cost to ship it back to you. Thank you and have a great day. As far as i can tell there was no corrosion. Is this just an excuse for saying we messed up your board or does it make sense.
