Hi everyone,
I've been having trouble with my 50PV400 for some time now. While plugged in, the standby light is on, but turning it on (using either the remote or soft power button on the TV) causes the relay to click on, then click back off after about 1 second.
This seems to be a very common problem, and I've tried everything short of replacing boards (yet). I have the training manual for the 50PV450 (thanks tom66 for your manual database) which is basically the same TV. I've measured all voltages from the SMPS, powered the SMPS up in stages as described in the manual, did the two 100w light bulb test, and everything is fine. The SMPS comes on fine in stages when not connected to the main board, and the problem occurs regardless of whether the SMPS is connected to the Y-SUS board or light bulbs.
ALL voltages out of the SMPS are nearly exactly what the manual specifies, both for standby mode and when powered on. AC_Det is present (jumps from 0v to 4.45v when the relay clicks on, then back to 0v when it clicks off). All voltages are stable. I cannot find anything wrong at all with the SMPS functionally, and there are no physical signs. I also connected a computer to the serial port and was able to issue power on commands but that resulted in the same thing as pressing the power button. I was never able to get any bootloader text from the serial port, so it doesn't look like the firmware actually starts loading.
Now it gets stranger: occasionally the TV will actually come on. Very rarely. And when it does, it works perfectly. Picture is as good as the day I bought it and everything functions fine.
Now it gets even more weird: if the TV does actually come on, if I shut it off by killing the power (ie. pulling power cord or powerbar switch, NOT with the remote or soft power button), it will always come back on again and work fine when power is restored - EVERY TIME. But as soon as it powers off "normally" by using the remote or soft power button, it goes back to just clicking when trying to turn on. If it ever manages to come back on properly, I can kill the power and it will come on again after power is restored.
I had been using the TV reliably by powering it on/off with a power bar for some time and was ok with that. But last night someone in my house mistakenly turned it off with the remote and now it's back to not working. It's almost as if when powering it off properly (going into standby mode) it enters some kind of error condition that won't allow it to turn back on, but just killing power skips that. All I'm left with is thinking it's a main board issue.
At this point, my thought is to order a new main board but I wanted to see if anyone else out there had anything they might be able to offer before I spend the money. Thanks in advance for anything anyone might be able to offer!
