Possible to blow a panel by shorting a T-con?

I feel like a dunce for doing this..


I got a Panasonic TC-37LZ85 that had back light but no picture, I found out VIA here that there is a 1.6amp fuse on the t-con that blows.

Mine was blown so I fitted a 2.0 amp fuse and the panel fired right up. While I was positioning the tv around like a dummy I had a screw driver in my hand and it hit the T-con as I was turning it and the TV shut down and starting to SOS blink.

I pulled the t-con out and notice the fuse was shot so I put one more on and the panel fired up but this time one side was VOID and the other side had lines all down the side of that screen.

Is it possible I blew the TFT/IC drivers after the t-con?

The mainboard seems to function as I can still hit the TV/Video button and the backlights adjust to the settings on those inputs.

I found a replacement T-con for 7.00 so I guess I will see then but I have never done anything so silly lol.



Bummer too, I hear/read that this was a pretty good LCD.

Yes. If you short the 15V to 3.3V, you could very easily break it or the T-con board, or both...

Ah, I saw were it hit, it hit the fuse on the end and grounded to the outter ground point "little exposed copper circle" of the t-con.

The red circle is were it grounded.

I would check the cable ends and make sure they are inserted correctly.

Ah--Dont feel so bad, We've all done daft stuff.....

I remember way back, I had just repaired a portable set, and was a Trainee at the time.
I hinged the chassis down on the set to adjust something or other--And broke the tit off the end of the CRT.....

'Thats gonna be expensive for ya!....' the chief engineer said, He didnt even look up from what he was doing!
--Yup, I had to source and replace the broken CRT--At My Cost, which ended up being more than 1 weeks wages!

Yeah

I wouldn't feel so bad if it was as cheap Apex or Westinghouse but this one still could fetch good money a few of them have sold for over 175.00, Something about these people liked.

I will know more when the new T-con comes in

Good news, panel is fine. T-con replaced seems to be working great.

I can see what all the fuss is, it's really got a nice picture and pretty deep blacks.

Silly that they didn't put a menu button on the side of the unit!
