Vizio VA370M looking for firmware bin file

    Vizio VA370M
    serial number LTZPFIBK4700661
    November 2009
    Mainboard: CBPF9D1KZ7
    Panel: LC370WUE (SB) (B1)

Does anyone have the firmware for this TV?

It freezes with the Vizio logo splash screen on the screen at power on.

I have checked all the supply voltages on the main board. Since it has gotten this far in the turn on process, the Xilleon x243 processor must be running.

So I am assuming that it either 1) has corrupted firmware for the Xilleon x243 (stored in a 128kbyte NAND flash) or
    2) It is checking/waiting for some other subsystem that is not responding.

First order of business is to see if I can update the firmware (which might not be possible depending on where in the startup sequence it is freezing), and if so, does it fix the problem.

This main board also has a Weltrend WT61P8 microcontroller (U407) which runs during standby and receives the IR remote and side panel control inputs, and also controls the HDMI ports. The WT61P8 has its own built in 64k flash memory and thus I assume firmware. It is labelled the "CEC uP" in the block diagram. Can anyone tell me what "CEC" stands for?

There are 6 small M24C02 serial EEPROMS on the mainboard. Five of them are for the four HDMI parts and the DSUB port, and are specified on the BOM as generic EEPROMS. The last one (U409) is associated with the WT61P8 MCU and is a special part on the BOM, suggesting that it is pre-programmed.

I would replace the MCU EEPROM, but none of the ebay vendors of Vizio eeproms offer one for this TV.

In addition to the USB port, there is a service port on the mainboard that provides I2C protocol access to the MCU.

I have the Service Manual with all the schematics.

If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it. I'm sure this is repairable with the appropriate information.

    CEC = Consumer Electronics Control.
Sorry I can't help you with the rest.

I doubt the MCU is causing issues. Will be main firmware issue... running on applications processor.

      Thanks for the info Tom.

Do you have an educated guess as to the likelihood that a fresh flash of the firmware will fix this?

I have a support request into Vizio for the firmware. Fingers crossed.

Use the LiveChat option, through my lurking I have read many have had success with letting LiveChat know the issue, and even out of warranty, Vizio offered to mail them the firmware to fix the issue, or offer to send a repair technician to their house free of charge with 90 day warranty on that repair. Goodluck

Thanks for that tip Juiced. I will give it a try.
The email route so far was unsuccessful, as I just got an email back telling me to contact their certified repair partners.

Well, I tried with Vizio Live chat, but the agent said that they only have firmware updates to send out, and if there are no issues with the original firmware, then there is no update to send. There is no update available for the VA370M. Grrrr!

I suppose I can call their repair guys and ask.

This sounds like my problem as well. I get power on, logo screen but will not boot beyond that. At first if I waited a few minutes it would turn on. Now its been off for a week and still will not turn on. I was checking caps and regulators with no luck. Tried plugging different video sources with no luck. Happened to press the input button on the TV and heard a noise like the tv shut-off and turned back on. Presto!!! I had video! worked for several days then quit again. Are we still thinking it is the EEPROM U409? I'ver read about the regulator at U33 but that is more of a no power to inverter problem? I am capable of soldering and replacing components but really don't have experience tracking down the individual problem part.

Oh, and I have tried the input button trick but my luck has run out.
