    VIZIO VO42L FHDTV10A - Bad Inverter

I found a cheap VIZIO VO42L FHDTV10A on craigslist for $50. The owner said the back-light went out and they just bought a newer TV. It powers up and in a few seconds the yellow VIZIO logo turns to white.

I did some research before I bought it to see what others had done and what kinds of parts were available. I was thinking I would just get a new Master/Slave Black-light Inverter kit and give it a shot but when I took things apart today I found a noticeably burned out component on the Master Inverter. (See attached picture with the Red arrow.)

Does this look like something I could fix or should I just look for a new Master?

I've done a little soldering but nothing like this before. I'd love to give it a shot if there was anyone here that could point me in the right direction for parts and maybe some advice.

    Thanks!

I got to looking at things a little closer and found a part number on the blown part which is a transistor if I'm correct.

      MOSFET 2SK4075: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...d1027d9046.pdf
You should inspect the IC, other MOSFETs on the board for any burnt or short, check the fuse also. The caps should also be replaced, by the time you do all that it may cost quite a bit to repair. If you do not check real well especially the IC that drives the MOSFETS, the new MOSFET can be damaged due to bad IC.

Well I think you scared me away. Haha. I found some kits that came with the individual components but it wasn't much more to just get the whole board used on ebay. Wish me luck! Thanks for the insight.

                Re: VIZIO VO42L FHDTV10A - Bad Inverter

It sounds like I am having the same problem with my Vizio VO42L FHDTV10A. Sound but no picture. When I put a flashlight up to the screen, I can see images however. From what I have read, it is a bad inverter.

I bought it at Costco in 2009 but when I take the back off, it looks a little different. I would assume the inverter is on the left side of the attached picture. However, when I try to take the metal cover off after removing the screws, it still does not move. I do not want to break the delicate boards.

Can you give me some insight as to whether I am on the right track with my problem with the TV and how to get at the inverter if that is indeed the issues.

My wife is talking about not replacing this tv and that is just plain crazy talk

                Thanks,

                Brent
