PANASONIC TH-37PH9UK - Intermittent picture failure

    Hi All,

If it matters, this is the commercial series model which is only a monitor; no speakers or TV tuner built in.

The picture has recently 'gone away' during use. This issue can happen after 5 straight hours of 5 minutes of use. The power light will continue to stay green as it normally does and does not give any red blinks.

This happens when using the component and or and PC inputs.

Once the picture has failed, if I turn off a source such as the receiver, the 'no signal message is scrambled in a pink and blue mess along what appears to be the top third of the screen.

I am hoping for a suggestion to trouble shoot as a starting point.

I apologize in advance if this issue has been discussed before. I searched approximately five pages of threads and didn't see the exact issue.

The OSD is not legible once the pictures goes away. I attached a screenshot when it runs normal.

I have not opened up the case and do not currently have a multimeter but am willing to get one if necessary.

    Thanks.

Could be many problems -do you have any previous experience of repairing
monitors tvs or computers. Will you be able to identify any components inside.
You are almost certain to need a multimeter - for a one off job a $5 one will do.
You may also need soldering equipment.
If you are really lucky it may just be a loose cable so you need to take the back off and unplug and reseat ALL connectors.- Carefully else they may be damaged. Look for bulging or leaking capacitors and any hot spots on the boards.
Post good clear pictures using manage attachments jpg no bigger than 3mb
    should work.

Thanks for the reply. The only computer repair experience I've had is replacing hard drives, RAM and a few PSUs. I'll take the back off and look for the things you mentioned. I'll also pick up a multimeter and snap some pics.

      Thx.

Nothing is jumping out at me as far as leaks and or burns marks. I'm struggling to get great pictures with my camera phone. Let's see how these look.

Sounds like bad LVDS cable connections.

          manual

I'm looking at the DA board connector DA5 to D board connector D5.

Try reseating or manipulating those and see what results you get. Have had a 2006 TV with that issue and I had to reseat several times to clean the connection and then used gaffa tape over the plug to secure it once it was all good.

Hi pictures are not great for troubleshooting but at least it gives us the layout of the boards. I do notice a lot of dust in there - nice cosy jacket - will cause overheating - try and give it a clean out with a brush and vacuum. Wont fix the problem but makes it easier to see and will prolong its life when it is fixed.

As you are new to "fixing" I was wondering if you might take a look at this new guide that Agent24 has put together to try and help newcomers like yourself.

It would be helpful if you could leave some comments in that thread, good or bad - we dont mind constructive criticism on here
I am going to be away until 8 July but at least you have other members who
should continue to help. You can just "bump" (I hate that) the thread by
saying you have done *******- what else can I try?

Thanks. I posted a comment in that thread. The monitor has been on its best behavior since I gave it a vacuum and gently pressed on some of the clips. I doubt that solved the problem, but I'll open it up and check out the DA to D board connectors.

This was also a good experience as I would like to put an HDMI card in there at some point. I did not order it with one in 2006.

For what it's worth, this was a quick run down on the 2006 TV with what to me sounds like an identical issue.

If it's fine for now, maybe just let it go and when it fails again, have a look.

I do believe it's just dirty/bad connector, age , oxidisation. The one I did has been fine ever since but I did have to work the connector in and out numerous times before it was fairly stable.
