Sharp LC-60LE835U 60" Smart HDTV -- Bad HDMI

    Good morning forum,

I have a Sharp LC-60LE835U in my possession that was functioning well until about two weeks ago after a lightning storm. Now, the HDMI inputs (4) and USB ports (2) no longer work. However, it seems that everything else (every analog input, audio, WiFi, TV apps) works as well as it should.

My first assumption was to just purchase another main board to solve the problem. While posting for assistance on another site, that choice was seconded as the correct choice to make. I was just wondering, though, if there was anything else that could impact the HDMI ports like this. Could it be a power issue? Or is the main board the only logical problem.

I did try to write the HDMI HEIDs to the board using adjustment mode, hoping that would help repair the bad HDMI connections; that did not help as the write process threw code NG (no good?) instead of OK.

So, I am guessing that the Integrated Circuit on the main board that handles the USB and HDMI (digital connections) was damaged by lightning through the HDMI cable. Can this occur? To my knowledge nothing else was damaged during the storm. Could lightning have only damaged the TV through the HDMI cable and not affected the power board?

Thank you for taking time to read and assist me.

Best method is to replace the main board. You are lucky to have only the hdmi damaged only, usually these lightning surges fried the entire main board (guess it depends on how they are built).

It usually enters through the HDMI first, and usually takes out the hdmi processor. I'm sure your power board should be fine.

Do you happen to live in a single house? I'm wondering how these lightning strikes surge through single houses, but I wonder about apartments or townhouses.

That sounds like a fair assessment. I'd check the power supply output voltages first though. Then you can say that the PS Is good.

I had a LC-52LE830U that suffered the same fate after a lightning strike. A new main board fixed it.

Thanks a lot for the reassurance guys. I'll try to check the power board's voltages as well to be more certain. I need to read up in the service manual about the correct voltages first. I couldn't find them displayed on the board itself as is the case with many power boards.

EDIT: The TV was damaged from within a single home.

That makes me feel more comfortable. Especially considering the main board appears to run ~$150.00.

before buying a main board try the simple things first, replaced the HDMI cable or confirm the HDMI cable isn't damage, and reset the TV back to factory. From the power outage setting could've got corrupt.

Thanks for reminding me, I did forget to try that. I did try several HDMI devices, with separate HDMI cables, though.

A few minutes ago, from the adjustment menu, I ran the command "Industry Init," which restores everything to a from-factory state. The HDMI ports are still non-functional, sadly.

I also tried to write the HDMI EDIDs after this factory reset, which failed with code "write NG" again.

HDMI failure from main PCB is very common. Above suggestions are correct, Replace the Main PCB

                  Hello,
Last week our home was hit hard by lightning, so much so that 4 transformers on our street were blown out.
Items lost....DirecTV box, Cable TV box and initially Sony 55"....all inputs hooked up via HDMI. We have since purchased new set but wanted to at least try and see if this TV can be fixed.

Initially while T/S, found all inputs fine except T-Con_ON = 0VDC
but front panel had 3 red blinks. Yesterday took Pwr Supply and Main Board out to check for any noticeable failures. Coincident or not, after replacing both boards the TV started working fine...

Certain DisplayPort-HDMI cables can disable HDMI CEC communication
                  by japlytic
With a setup including a TV and AV receiver where HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) and Audio Return Channel (ARC) functions were working, these two functions stopped working after changing some connections (not the one between the AV receiver and TV), so I believed it was a corrupt setting in the AV receiver or TV, but when I disconnected a passive DisplayPort-HDMI cable (which a Multimode DisplayPort connector supports HDMI with a low cost passive cable or adaptor) connected to a home theatre PC, HDMI CEC and ARC functionality was restored.
An examination of the HDMI CEC wiring...

                  Toshiba 50UL2063DB randomly rebooting with HDMI-CEC and/or HDMI-ARC enabled
                  by spleenharvester
I have this TV hooked up to only an AppleTV 4K and a Creative soundbar. Originally HDMI-CEC and HDMI-ARC wouldn't work at all, I replaced all the HDMI cables with decent UGREEN cables meeting the latest standards, now it all works perfectly but once or twice a day the TV itself reboots while watching a program, the AppleTV keeps running. I haven't fully pinned down whether it is ARC or CEC causing it yet. All are running latest firmware.

I assume it is just HDMI-CEC being buggy as usual on a shitty Vestel machine, but can anyone think of anything I can try before disabling it?

LG LCD TV HDMI PORT FAULTY
                  by RossMoodley1967
LG LCD TV picture comes on intermittenly using hdmi port. The sound is on permantly. The hdmi ports looks fine and soldered in securely. The 3.4v coming to the main board is not present(not sure if will affect the hdmi port or where that voltage goes.)The hdmi cable is fine because it works on another tv.The ceramic caps connected to the hdmi controller ic is reading 39 ohms.Could the hdmi controller ic be faulty(feels very warm to touch). The RCA jacks work normally .Thank you in advance for your assistance..

                  Pioneer VSX-44 receiver HDMI dropouts
                  by RatherLoopy
I have an older Pioneer receiver (VSX-44) that's been dropping the HDMI output (black screen) for a few seconds every few minutes. Setup is HTPC -> Pioneer DVD HCMI in -> Pioneer HDMI out -> Samsung TV HDMI in, all with cheap HDMI cables that have never caused trouble before..

I initially found a lot of play in the receiver's HDMI inputs and output so I kind of squeezed them back into shape and they're making a tighter connection, but the problem persists.

And also, often, the HDMI will drop out in exactly the same way (black screen) just as my central air...
