Screen went dark, no sound - TC-P60GT30

The TV all of a sudden went dark with no sound. The power light does not blink. No startup information box shows up when turning the TV on, nor does the menu or Viera Cast menus work. I have unplugged the TV for extended periods with no change. When plugging the TV plug into the socket, there is a clicking noise, as if I tried to turn it on. Then there are a couple of clicks when I try to power to TV on. Can anyone tell me what is likely the problem?

Does the power light come on then? and stay on?
Does the screen light up - stay on? how long until it goes off.
Have you checked the boards for burnt components bulged capacitors
Have you a multimeter and soldering equipment.
What is you experience of electronics - Tvs are a bit complex as a first project.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. The light comes on with no blinks. The screen turns on, but is dark. The TV shuts off automatically after a short time. It takes a few minutes, but I haven't timed it. I am pretty knowledgeable with electronics and am comfortable with testing and repairing down to the board level, but I'm not as capable at the component level due to inexperience soldering. I understand how to do it, but just haven't done it much. I have done a lot of work on automotive electronics, engine management and wiring. I have the service manual for a 55" version of my TV from this site and have reviewed it thoroughly. If I can get replacements for suspect boards, I'm sure I can repair it.

I didnt realise it was a plasma tv - I know very little on those here is a thread dedicated
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18542. One general start point seems to be switch off wait 5 mins unplug y sustain switch on. Any different.
Repeat on z sustain. then repeat with both unplugged.
        Try reseating the lvds cable.
The fact that there is no sound suggests power supply or main control board.
A picture of the whole of the back of the set with wires in place may help others to assist you

Yeah, I'm going to go through the procedures in the Service Manual this weekend. Hoping the one I have for the 55" version is pretty much the same as mine. I hope you're right about the power supply due to no sound. Also, for the boards in the Panasonic plasmas, can you recommend where to get replacements?

So, I took the back cover off, powered up the TV, and the checked the LED indicators on the SC and SS boards. They are both lit green. The TV has a mfg date of MAY2011. I noticed after a few minutes that there was a light being reflected off the wall, and when I checked, the TV is now working. I don't know what I did, but I must be some kind of genius!!

Check for loose connections and that all the screws holding the boards down are tight. That seems to be an issue with the plasmas from 2011. I found a couple loose screws on mine, but don't think that started my mess. Your scenario would make me think it is your issue, though.

So, sounds like you are right. It has happened again. I will be taking the cover off again...
