So I wish I would have taken pictures of this but one day my verizon cable box was restarting constantly and it would get just before the time shows up and fade out and turn off. You couldn't do anything with the tv box. So I took my tv off the top of it, small 32in led samsung and looking down through the vent clear as day is a blown cap bulged out the top. So I call verizon up and their like we need to send a tech out there to troubleshoot it. I told them No. I said I know exactly what's wrong with this box it has a blown capacitor that's it. I told them my background with fixing tv's and that's all that was needed. They said they would have to replace the box and I would have to mail it to them and they would send me another. I then said No again. I tried to bargain with the person on the phone and I said how about I fix your product and you give me HBO free for a year or something like that. They of course would not do that. Luckily enough there is a verizon store that had a box in stock that I could exchange it out with. But I just thought it was funny to see that and they wanted to waste so much time doing nonsense. So unfortunately I didn't get to fix the cap.

Re: My cable set top box bad cap
it's a legal liability thing,
they cant be seen authorising or encouraging anybody to open the box incase of a shock or fire.
what they "could" have done though is send out an advance replacement so you can send the old one back in the same box.
some company's do that.
some other company's know the boxes have a limited life & just send a replacement and say keep/bin the faulty one.
it's down to luck what the company policy is really.Comment

Re: My cable set top box bad cap
Yea I wanted to fix it just for kicks and giggles but I didn't want to do it unless I got something for free from them for spending my money and time on their product. And I understand the legal liability and some Joe Schmo would just mess it up even more. But they wanted to mail me a new box which they said would take a week to get and I was like no that's not acceptable since I could fix it and be done with it now. But since the store was just 5 min away I was just gonna swap it. If it was any farther away I would have just fixed it myself for the convenience.Comment

by Patch2I have a broken connector (believe it's a 6 pin mini-DIN) on a cable. The metal shroud and all but one of the pins are separated from the cable, and just stuck together for the photo. The other end is an unknown rectangular connector. The cable is for the foot pedals on an Italian made electronic piano, and the company is out of business. Looking for ideas on how to fix it. I have a soldering iron, but I'm not very skilled at soldering, so getting a retrofit for the broken end may be beyond my ability. The other end would be easier to replace, if I could get a mini-DIN cable with the same number...8 Photos

by Tr0llHi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.
The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.
Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.
First replacement T-con:
I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)... -
by fweoneaWhile at university, I connected my HP-Pavilion x360 14-dw0156ng laptop, running Windows 10, to a monitor using a provided USB-C cable. Immediately after this, my laptop's screen turned black and the device stopped working entirely. There are no signs of life such as fan noise or LED indicators, holding the power button does nothing. I've previously used this same monitor model and cable without issues, the cable typically charges the laptop as well.
I've attempted holding the power button for over 30 seconds, removing and reinserting the battery, and trying to power it on with only the...01-16-2024, 11:35 AM -

by paparazzo79Hi guys.
I purchased the monitor from the link below:
https://www.hannspree.eu/product/ht-273-hpb/
Since I will be using monitor from bed, I'd need longer usB type A to type B plug cable.
I got one which is 4.5m long, regular one
May I use it without harm to the monitor?
I suppose cable which came with monitor is regular type A to type B,not some speical cable.
I could picture what is labeled on the cable, if it matters for assistance.-
