Thanks for the starting spot freak, I will dig in tomorrow in the storm and try and get started on it.

EDIT: found a service manual should help to get started Tcon and boards available to buy or ebay for used?

Panel failure is very common in that model. I had one 2 or 3 weeks ago, and a couple shortly before that. It's almost always the leftmost tab. Sometimes rightmost one though. The chip on the tab starts to come loose.

I'd try disconnecting a ribbon cable from Tcon, one side at a time too. See if that has any effect. I'd still vote panel failure though. Seen too many. Try flexing the panel some too, that will usually either make the picture clear up, or go out entirely. Either way, it means a bad panel. Flexing is easier to do with the back off. If it does go out entirely, keep in mind that the picture won't come back until you cycle the power. Took me forever to figure that one out.

Sweet, thanks for the tips! I see bad panel all the time and the 'temp' fix seems to work most of the time so fingers crossed hoping for the best.

Next one I get, I have some new ideas to try. The temp fix works sometimes, but will eventually fail. I have a better idea than wedging something to press against the tab. My idea is to clamp the tab, across the part where the IC is, with strips of hard plastic. Maybe cut a couple strips from the housing of a TV that's been parted out. I have a basement full of them. Anyway, the idea is to apply even pressure from both sides of the tab. Enough to keep the chip firmly in contact with the tab, but not so much that you crush it. Couple small screws, one on each side, close to the tab should keep it together. Since it wouldn't be relying on the frame and backlight assembly to hold it together, it may be a more reliable fix. May have to do some trimming on the metal frame to make it fit.

Is this a Sony issue for you to have this much experience with this issue or do you get alot of this model? Interesting points I will keep in mind when it comes apart! Thanks again!

VIZIO E70-E3 Half picture with half TCON
                by Fly_Among_Stars
                Hi,
                I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
                Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.

If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and...

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
                by Daren87
                Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

Sony XBR-85X950G Gray horizontal lines and vertical picture shift diagnosis?
                by noisykid
5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...

                Sony KD-55AG9 TCON?
                by bbrain
                Hi,

I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
                It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.

Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?

                Thanks in advance!...
