So, at the moment the screen fades does it drop out, or is it only gone once it's dark?

It's like I turn the plug off at the wall all colours are there untill it goes off and the power drops completely off then goes back up after it comes back on

OK. Perhaps at this point it's a good idea to try to get the TV to run cool (perhaps put it in an outside shed for an hour?) then heat up parts with a hairdryer or hot air gun. See if you can make it malfunction. It's going to be tricky to track down exactly what part, but you might be able to get it down to a board-level replacement.
