Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ81 - 10 Blink / Flash
My panasonic 10 blink experience... someone gave me a broken panasonic 42 inch plasma; kids hit it with a baseball... so i know all the guts inside are good... found another unit with a good screen got it; it had a 10 blink code; which i didnt really care as I had all good boards... swapped them all in and still got 10 blinks...
I now call it the 10 blinks of death... when i went back and looked at the boards they were all rusted and corroded; turns out the unit was used outside... the panel itself is like a gas lite light bulb it has and has x-amount of life to it too... Im going out on a limb here and going to say your panel is shot....
Something keep in mind is just because a TV was working before the screen is smashed does not mean all boards are good. Quite often if it was running it damages the buffer boards which then could also blow the sustain.
A number of boards can cause SOS10 including SC boards.
What model panasonic was the one you talk about? Do you still have it or has it gone to TV heaven?
It always interesting to come across new unusual faults, did you ever post that TV story in here?Comment

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ81 - 10 Blink / Flash
i really think get the other A board off the seller and see what happens. If it's the same deal I don't know what to suggest really.
With the new A board, the front LED is on and starts normal, like red to green? With the new board, when the TV is turned on is the red optic fibre out on the HA board below lit red?Comment

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ81 - 10 Blink / Flash
yeah with the new board all is ok its as if it should be on led normal and optical, i have a feeling the replacement board will be the same as i don't have much luck with repairing Panasonics lolComment

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ81 - 10 Blink / Flash
Panasonic panels are well known to suffer 7 blinks on the 2007 models. What's the actual failure rate? According to someone in the industry, less than 2% due to panel.
Older Panasonic SC/SS on these models are extremely reliable; I've heard of maybe one SC failure, one SU/SD failure, and no SS failures. That's compared to the hundreds of P board and A board failures they have.
The design isn't deliberately unrepairable: you tell me how you can connect 5760 lines on a panel just 40 inches wide using conventional electronic connectors. That's 0.2mm pitch with NO gaps between connectors. Plus routing these connections to the address driver ICs. Yeah... it's not going to happen.
Any TV in an environment where it is on 24/7, exposed to cigarette smoke/moisture/dust/salttwater, etc. will of course last less time than an ordinary TV. This is common sense! LCD and plasma alike...!
10 blinks CANNOT BE CAUSED BY A PANEL PROBLEM!
The only blink codes for possible panel problems: 5, 7 and 8.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ81 - 10 Blink / Flash
Agreed proprietary garbage; its no wonder panasonic got out of the plasma business...
I no longer invest in trying to fix pani units anymore; too few, not enough interchangability; nice TV not worth the time to fix to me; hunting down parts is a pain...
I will crack open the POS pani unit again and see whats the deal but to me they are a crap product x-sys ribbons tear so easy; the screwing down of the ribbon is the most retarded thing i have ever seen too...
if any of you guys are in south florida i will give you a great deal on the pani parts..! LoL good riddance to Panisonic..!
If you ask me anything with LG or samsung guts inside are the units to work on and save cause parts are available... Panis are shots in the dark; I mean just read this thread how many shots in the dark and no hits already..?
Time is money and to continue to invest in a device which can be replaced for the same price makes it NOT WORTH FIXING! LoL
Update cracked open the unit put the y-sys ribbon back on fired it up 7-blinks; when i first got the unit with its original boards in it, it was 10-blinks after swapping all my good known boards over got 7-blinks... So even if the unit starts with 10-blinks it can be other underlying issues... with y-sys disconnected it gives 6 blinks... no signs of anything fried; and again all boards came out of a working unit with a broken screen... again if anyone wants a good deal on this batch of parts let me know...Last edited by SlickClick; 04-18-2014, 10:14 AM.Comment

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ81 - 10 Blink / Flash
Been reading through this, as I have a ten-blinker and can say for sure--It AINT the panel!
I'll start a new thread as its a slightly older set 42PZ70B but was really happy the panel Appears to be good.
(Its original owner had well 'got-at' this poor thing, got PSU running now, and its ex-owner had left the plug just above tuner out.
This gives panel initialisation and the usual glow--with nothing on the screen however, plugging back in--Gives 10-Blink --of death?--Nah!.....)TELEFIX
How PLASMA SCREENS WORK, X-SUS and Y-SUS what they do--

Re: Panasonic TH-42PZ81 - 10 Blink / Flash
Normally, these sets will turn on for about 10-15 seconds then shut off if the fans are not spinning. There is a feedback circuit which will notify the main board if the fans are stuck (jamming, broken fan, cable loose etc.) So it's odd that the detect circuit isn't working...Please do not PM me with questions!
