    Board repair

Can anyone tell me how I can go about fixing this board? I was removing an ic and tore the pad out, I'm not sure where it leads to but I believe its the ground pad? There is a small hole right behind it that may be where I can run a jumper wire or am I totally wrong here?

    Re: Board repair

Looks like its just the solder point for the ic's tab, scrape away some of the greeen coating and exppose the copper on either side of where the pad is missing so you can solder it. looks like it is connected to the center pin of the ic. the same pad configuration looks like the one located next to c675 marking.

The pad also used as the heatsink to transfer the heat from the tab, so you need to make sure the tab has big contact with the copper trace. Yo may have to use thin copper piece to use as the heat sink.

Having that tab soldered to that pad also would be acting as a heatsink for the device. keep that in mind as a possible issue

Could I possibly solder a piece of braided copper wic under the tab? or does it need to be a thin piece of regular copper?

            Yes you can,

first you have to remove some green paint from left and right side for joint solder copper wic with it.

BE CARE FULL it is not ground. it is regulator ic like 1117?

Personally I would use some copper sheet, greater surface area resulting in better heat dissipation but copper braid may well suffice, depends on the heat being generated.

So where can I get some copper sheet? I thought maybe finding some solid copper wire and flattening it with a hammer.

That could work but the hammering will likely fatigue the metal, only place I know for copper sheet is either a model shop or, and this is where I got it from, Hobby Craft, it's for scribing, they have it at a thickness comparable to what was originally in place.

You may also be able to get away with putting a tiny heatsink on the IC package directly. You would need to use thermal paste that has epoxy as well to stop it falling off.

How much heatsink do you think you will get with a 1/8 in X 1/4 in piece of copper foil that was under the ic originaly? You could always install a water cooled heatsink on it.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

                          Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

                          Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
                          by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
