Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Might just be they were broadcasting an old non-widescreen show at the time?

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
FW update - well, finally got the FW update working... definitely helped that I could see the screen in order to select 'yes'... learned something maybe useful to others... initially used a usb hanging around... didn't work. It was 8GB and formated NTFS. Found an older usb, 512MB (website said 256MB min) and formatted FAT32. bingo, worked like a champ. results? time will tell, although I have to now figure out how to get the channels happy... some are proper aspect ratio for 46", and other channels seem stuck on low quality with view not going out to sides... will keep all posted, thanks MDLuffyLeave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Well....got myself an "SSL 460_3E1B" inverter board..$40 from Aliexpress...website seems very reasonable, only a long delivery time... installed what voila! the TV is working!! but hold on.... wanted to make sure, cycled power a few times and once it came up with sound but no video... cycled power again and all seems ok... left it on for several hours, and then blank! with sound...tv status has a new parts (inverter, main, tcon). Something is going on... since I can get a screen working (most of the time) will try the FW update again...

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
When my Toshiba 32BV702B went Blank screen (2 seconds to blank) back in November, I contacted Toshiba Support (Number on Website) and they talked me through the factory default reset using the remote, which worked fine.
Only downside is I think the fault was still lurking in the background as the PSU blew 2 months later
The PSUs on them are so terribly unreliable (this is my third in 6 months) they are all doomed to fail sooner, or later. I have repaired the PSU in a Digihome 26", a Toshiba 32" (same as yours) and now I'm working on a Hitachi 32" with the same PSU, and all with the same fault.
Contrast this to MDluffy's TV, which appears to be engineered and manufactured by Toshiba. Who knows why they do that for this TV but abandon the European market and rebadge crap TVs. Shame on Toshiba execs - dragging a once good brand name through the dirt.Last edited by tom66; 03-16-2014, 04:10 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Main board is the most likely cause of this. It is possible you received a bad main board. Did the seller indicate if the board was tested? Most of them cannot, and do not, test their boards.Leave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Finally found more time to experiment... to no avail... current status - same symptoms (after red Toshiba, screen goes from gray to black/blank); changed both main computer board and tcon with no change in symptoms....Leave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Got the control board. Only challenge swapping out was the disconnecting and reconnecting of the connectors....Need to take great care and not tug on wires. CN11 the small ribbon cable for touch keypad is tiny! and very difficult...with some assistance, finally got them swapped. No change in symptomsMoving on to TCON replacement, just purchased on ebay $19... Will keep you posted.

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Well, followed the instructions, but since the screen is blank, not really sure if I initiated the load...never saw the light on the USB flicker, couldn't tell from any other observations if it loaded or not. When instructions said to use the right and left arrows to select yes to load, I first just hit enter hoping it defaulted to yes, then again with a single right arrow then enter etc... really didn't get anywhere.
So for heck of it, found a control board on ebay. $43usd, free shipping... Figure that the picture circuitry could be working since we are seeing the red toshiba and gray momentarily. Maybe something is telling the screen to go blank, or not telling it to turn on.... Anyway, will install and report back to all. Thanks, MDluffyLeave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Good - hope it works - when I google things I often just skim past the first few items as whilst I believe they are there because of lots of hits they are often just sites that pick on anything you google then give a list of loads of other places to look and dont actually have any info.Leave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Interesting... I was searching for "46L5200U1" which shows no drivers available, but when I searched "46L5200U" it did show drivers available as you replied. My TV nameplate indicates the U1...I will dig in to see what the difference is, unless someone here knows. Thanks for your patience and assistance. MDluffyLeave a comment:

Unfortunately the only place might be Toshiba themselves. They don't always publicly releas the firmware.Leave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
It sounds like a firmware/software problem to me, which would probably require replacing the main board. However, there's a small chance you can fix the firmware with a USB update. Try downloading the latest update from Toshiba and putting it on a USB stick. Hopefully it has a method like "hold OK button while turning on" to update, rather than having to do it through the menus (which you can't access.)Leave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Heating up - used hair dryer to heat up the TCON, I did not remove the metal section as it looks rather tricky to re-assemble, but pointed the dryer down the side. Seemed like good bit of warmth getting in there; No change in symptoms.
Unplugging main board leads - the toshiba logo did not come up, but screen did turn gray for a moment as it has been doing, then to black. reconnected leads and toshiba came up as has been, no change in symptoms.Leave a comment:

Re: Toshiba LED TV, blank screen
Try unplugging the leads that go from the Main board to the Tcon and see if the
backlight leds stay on.Leave a comment:

by Mad_ScienceI have a older eddy current tester made by Olympus that uses interchangeable TFT-LCD screens. I have two devices that each take the same removable screens. One is an Olympus NORTEC 200D+ and the other is an Olympus SONIC 1200M EMI. I have searched the internet high and low for service manuals for these units with no luck. Both these units were used extensively by the US military for NDT on airplanes. The detachable screen plugs into the base unit via a weird non standard VGA connector. Buttons on the removable display are used to power the units on. When the power button is pressed the unit makes...

by Ryan.manHello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!
My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.
This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen... -

by dicky96Hi guys
I'm trying to fix this laptop screen
Basically the owner is a computer shop and they brought it to me with two screens. They said the repair shop they use could not fix it, so I thought i would try to see if I am better than their current repairer!
OK so I have the original screen which works but has lines across the bottom quarter of the screen
I have the replacement screen, which they fitted and it worked. They then put the laptop on one side for a couple of weeks until they found a buyer. When they showed it to the buyer, the screen would... - Loading...
