    Re: Panasonic TC-P42S30 issues

I find it wierd that you bought a "refurbished" board and it seems to have shorted components. I thought refurbished meant fixed and working.

Did you put the old board back in? Are you getting the same symptoms now as the new board?

just a quick update. bought a new A board just to see if it was that and no... same thing. so it has to be the sn board or the panel. right now im having a hard time finding a new sn board

Did you put in your old SN board?

Did you get a refund on the new SN board that was bad?

What is the same with the new A-board installed?

If the SN board is shorted, you will get blinks no matter what.

yes, i put the old SN board back in which brought it back to the original problem with the lines on the screen.

I did get a full refund on the bad SN board and didnt even have to pay for return shipping.

Same with the new A board.

I understand that im supposed to get blinks if the SN is shorted but really I should be getting blinks no matter what. A problem in the panel should be forcing a blink code. The tv should not be able to turn on with this issue without forcing a blink code, which is why this problem is so frustrating.

is there a way to test the buffer ic's on the sn board? i have a feeling that they are causing the problem.

Did'nt you report after getting hold of a multimeter you found shorted transistors on your original SN board?

tw2005, yes I did. I was able to get a few of the mosfets to "beep" using the digital meter that I have, however on the bad board, I was able to get those same mosfets in the same locations to beep as well. The difference is, on the bad board, there were two extra mosfets (30F131) that beeped, that didnt beep on my original board. I have another panasonic board (i know its good) from another tv with the same mosfets that are used on the TNPA5349 board and when I tested them with the meter, they beeped as well. This leads me to believe I dont have my settings right on the meter and that certain types of mosfets are causing beeps even if they are good. As I said before, my digital multimeter skills are quite lacking and this particular meter does not have "diode mode"

Ok in cct yes you can get a quick beep and a reading is usually ok but a continuous beep and say 0 or something real low is a short. So sounds like you maybe back to where you started and possibly no shorted IGBTs? I was amazed seeing reported shorted IGBTs and the TV on with no blinks.

The detail in the SM is so poor I can't make out the test points. I'm thinking either a gnd point and running the probe slowly along the buffer output connectors and see what happens in continuity mode or there is a testpoint marked TPVFG, try that and the outputs.

Are you sure your ribbon cables going to the buffer board are OK?

The horizontal solid white bar on your picture happened to my TV when one of my ribbon cables were completely removed when trying to reseat them with the TV running (like a dope).

I guess you could just wait until you can get your hands on a good SN board or send the one you have in for repair.

i never pulled the panel tabs while it was running but it was like this before I got a hold of it so someone else could have. its a possibility, but it didnt look like it had ever been taken apart before.

Speaking of the ribbon cable could someone help me out with removing my board. I have the repair parts and am trying to get the board out but I'm having difficulty with the ribbon cables. I have flipped up the bar on the connectors and given a gentle tug on the ribbons but they don't seem to move. What am I missing?

                                  Help!!!! Please.

Provided the bar is all the way up, just grab it with 2 fingers either side (index, thumb), and pull it gently nice and straight. it'll be wedged in there so it will just pop out after it moves a little. just enough pressure to get it to pop out, You don't want to get rough and tear it as the conductors will tear like paper.

When they're inserted in again when you feel a little resistance they seat in just a little bit more.

There should be notches on the side of the ribbon to guide you as to how far and how straight the cable is.

You could even take a photo of them before you undo them the first time as a guide.
