Vizio VT470M goes black after couple of minutes (no picture, yes sound)

So last year I bought this TV on craigslist for $100 with the same exact problem with the intention of repairing it. I would turn the TV on, the Vizio logo would appear, the TV would work normally for a couple of minutes and the POOF, screen would go blank but the sound would still work.

So doing some research I figured it was either the T-Con or the main board that was at fault. Being the cheaper part, I replaced the T-con board first and nothing. After that I bought a new main board (CBPF9D1KZ6) and voila! That repaired it and it worked happily ever after...

Until last week... same thing started happening. I was playing on my PS3 and poof... just went out, sound still working and turning off and on gave me the same result as when I first got the TV. I really don't want to have to buy another main board... especially now that they are less available and more expensive.

So can I do anything to the main board to repair it? Is it a heat issue?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

By 'going black' do you mean the backlights turn off, or the picture goes away and the backlights are still on?

I'm not much on troubleshooting flat panel sets, but I've got the same model that will work for hours when I initially turn it on (after being off for about 30 minutes), but when I turn it off, then back on, I get no display except for backlights. I'm going to replace the capacitors on the main board (pretty much isolated it to that board, and there are a few in the power switching circuit that I can see), and see what happens. I got the TV from a neighbor that was throwing it away, so it's no great loss if the caps don't work. They were about $20 for all of them (plus spares). I wanted to avoid buying any expensive boards that may fail again in the future, with me not having a clue what's going wrong with them...

Yeah, I get backlights but no image. Could it be just a matter of replacing caps? Are you just going to try replacing them all or are there a certain number of known problematic ones? Thanks!

Check the fuse on the T-CON board or check and see if you do have 12V at both ends of the fuse with ref. to the chassis ground.

You should start a new thread since your TV is not the same model.

budm, I didn't see any images for the vt470m tear down within the link you provided. Is there another model that is comparable to it that I can look at?

The issue with my tv is the back light is on but no picture or sound.

This unit has been sitting in a corner for almost 2 years now. At first I thought it was a bad power supply and I was just going to replace that. But tonight I actually plugged it in and low and behold a picture and sound showed up. Only lasted for maybe 4 minutes. Then the screen went black and the was a solid beep tone coming from it.
Now it's just sitting here with no image and the back light lit.

                    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

what i went through dealing with my mobo with dead onboard sound!
                    by ChaosLegionnaire
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

Vizio M65-E0 No Picture, No Sound
                    by ggil44
Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

                    Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

vizio E60-E3 backlights, sound, no video
                    by ajshoe
Have a free Vizio E60-E3 pickup - sound and backlights work. set turns on and stays on for a period then cycles off and back on. NO VIDEO. If I remove left side (from front of TV) of TCON cable - set has pic on right side (from front of TV) with white screen on left side. With right side TCON cable disconnected - no pic on either side.
Does this mean remove right side (from front of TV) tabs ?

Like a second opinion before possibly destroying set....
