Philips DVD Home Theatre HTS3011 'No Disc'

Keep getting this error coming up, No Disc. All other functions appear to work fine the only other strange behaviour is the power LED seems very dim when red stby just about noticeable in a lit room and green on not noticeable at all in a lit or darkened room, not sure if this is normal or not.

    Found SM here:

Followed through some of the troubleshooting that seems relevant and all checks out ok so guessing this is now down to either the 'top hat', magnet, spindle servo motor or laser.
Voltages on the PS b/d all look ok except the amplifier volts seem a little low so does the -24.9v to front control panel, should be -27v(this is for the VFD, Stby + Vol board)
    CN901 28v reads 27.2V and -27v reads -24.9v.
    CN902 reads 5.06v, 12.01v and 4.77v.
    CN903 reads AC1 fluctuates 19.7-19.8v, AC2 fluctuates 17.6-17.7v, again -27 reads -24.9v, BK5 reads 4.78v and On/Off reads 4.66v.

The main filter cap measured 326v when PS b/d disconnected and 324v in stby and 323v when powered on, not sure this seems quite right?

    Q101-TIP42C has 3.22v on Pin2 and Q102-2SB772 has 1.8v on Pin2.

The laser does do its back and forth movement for reading the disc and I have cleaned the lens and the spindle motor does spin up though depending on how far up or down the top hat is fitted to the servo has different results.
Too far down the servo spindle and it cannot spin, too high up the spindle and the top hat stays attached to the magnet, magnet too strong?
I have not tried to oil the servo yet!

Any other ideas or tips please.

I should also mention that I have tried CD's with the same results, No Disc.

PS5 Disc Not Supported/ Disc Not Recognized Board Num: EDM-020
      by Junior††

      Good Afternoon fellas,

      Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
      - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
      - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
      - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

      Question:
      I...

The disc spindle motor will not spin on this unit. The motor has 2.5v on both sides and does not change.

I have a second unit that works 100% that needed a recap. I tried the PSU before and after the recap. No change. I swapped the video board that has all of the ICs on it and it still wont spin. I injected 2.5v into CN2 (the motor connector) and the motor spun.

The pickup assembly moves back and forth. The laser appears to light up, although it doesn't look like any newer laser diode with a well defined dot in the center. I can see red light refracting off the lens...

I going to build one of these DIY projects for removing battery tabbing I saw this YouTube video last night and got inspired to make one for myself to make this process easier to do and keep damage to batteries to a minimum and keep stress level down as well

Here is the video website link

Onkyo DX-V500 Laser Disc Player - weird SMPS fault
      by dkneyle
This relic from a technology path that came to a dead end (but still has historical interest) was brought in with a dead SMPS, which is based around a MK1210 device. I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...
