Build A Tool For Battery Spot Weld Removal with a Geared Servo Controller

I going to build one of these DIY projects for removing battery tabbing I saw this YouTube video last night and got inspired to make one for myself to make this process easier to do and keep damage to batteries to a minimum and keep stress level down as well

Here is the video website link

Is there any reason to engage lots of electronics and fancy stuff to obtain just bare mehanical job?

Design may follow same principes, with materials from scrapyards, but powered by pushing handle of that lever mechanism by hand... I dont get it... it will be even better because it is hand power cant discarge.

The problem with doing this with a dermal tool is that when you grind the tits off because they are mostly metal the battery cell end rust because they are only lightly nickel plated so this is the reason I have not proceeded very many of the ones that I have is because of this now iIf you put some solder on the tabbing and the battery cell plate then you do not have this issue but it is time consuming unfortunately

if they rust you need to fix the enviroment they are in or paint them with laquer or something.

Well I bought of these Gear Servo with the round face plate with no teeth but it has the hole for the arm that I am going to use for this project but I going to design it a little bit differently because first of all I going to have the blade a little bit lower and I going have slide bar on it to make it easier to change the battery size but unfortunately only the seller in China offer the arm plate so I am going to have to wait about a month before I receive this device

Here is the one that I bought

I thought about what STJ mentioned earlier about using a dermal tool to remove the tits off the battery terminals I might still have to use it on ones that are not completely removed by the tool but there is another reason for building this tool also to open plastic enclosure for switching power supplies and battery pack enclosures that have no screws to take them apart because doing it by hand sometimes is difficult to do at best and yes I have open quite a few of them in the past and if you damage the enclosure it is difficult to re- glue the enclosure back together and looks like crap when this happens there is not much you can do to make it look better but I recently I saw a YouTube video where someone used plastic wire tie strap and a soldering iron and melted it over the seam of the enclosure and then put a piece of aluminum tape over it until it cools down and remove it and it looks like it was just a slightly different than the original design of the enclosure surface but it does not look bad I will have to give this a try and see what kind-a results I get do this

I also found that Ryobi has black hot glue sticks now I bought a couple of bags of them but I have not used them yet but I will let you know what the results are when I use some

The issue I have building a mechanical system is that first of all the starting point and stopping point would not be consistent enough for me and would be difficult to achieve with out a lot more time to design it and test it and you still have to make the sharp small blade width so that you do not damage the the heat shrink tubing that is on the battery cell which if does not starts just below the top of battery terminal and stops just before the bottom of the battery terminal then you are more likely to damage the heat shrink tubing but honestly I did not even consider doing mechanically until you mentioned it in your post that is why I did not comment about your post until now because I really thought about it and I appreciate your comment about it

If you have jobs of large quantity the some machine is necesary, but if you have a couple bateries ocasionaly you can modify flat pliers with grinding away to needed shape and dimension.

I will have to try this idea when I find a pair of this type of cutters again I have to remember where I saw this type of cutting pliers before
