Good value DMM for tv repair?

I have several DMM's and a few analogs around here, but none seem to work well or be suited to tv repair and related tasks.

Would anyone be able to recommend a good quality DMM with enough features to get by with? I know I need audible cont check, but other than that, I'm not entirely sure. I also want to get one that is sensitive and accurate enough for this type of work. The el cheapo DMM's from harbor freight don't seem to be cutting it.

I don't have a high budget, so please $125 or less - used or new. Thanks!

You might be able to find a used Fluke 87 III for less than $125. It's a very good meter.

Dave on eevblog.com did a comparison of a few multimeters under $100: http://www.eevblog.com/2010/07/11/ee...i-t-part-1of2/

The proper question is in which price range I will start finding true well made DMM with 2-3 years of warranty.

I thought about getting a BK Precision meter before I bought my Fluke. It appears to fare well vs. more expensive meters. The 2709b also comes with a 3-yr warranty

I realize this thread is over 1+ year old, but I haven't been a regular participant in the TV section in a while now so I missed this.

Most repairs I do and when I help others is mainly focused on measuring DC volts and resistance. I rarely ask anyone to measure AC volts and current.

For troubleshooting purposes, getting a "ballpark" reading is generally good enough to diagnose a problem.

I could easily do the bulk of my repairs using a cheap 830 like meter, but I choose not to in case I have an "oops" moment. Do you think a 830 meter will survive a big filter capacitor charged up to 400VDC when the 830 is set to the ohms range?

So if you are still looking for a $125 USD ish meter, I can second the Fluke 87 III recommendation. You may have good luck visiting the local pawn shops vs ebay where prices seem over inflated for used Fluke meters right now?? If you can get the 87 III for less than $100, it would be a good deal.

A working Fluke 87 I (original) is also a good meter if you can find it for around $75 or less.

The unloved Fluke 83 (it does NOT have True RMS) can sometimes be found in the $50 range. For troubleshooting, I have never needed True RMS capabilities.

As per usual, buying used has a number of caveats so your mileage may vary.
