    Vizio VO47L - Inverter Issues?

    Symptoms:
The screen is mostly dark with dim, but clear, picture on the right-hand side. The TV also emits a high-pitched whine when powered-on. Its as if the right-hand backlight (Master-side) remains functional although at reduced output with the slave-side completely out.

    Actions I've taken:
I've thoroughly inspected the power board and inverter boards and everything looks fine. No bulging caps or blown components. I checked the inverter board mosfets with a multimeter. After reading these forums I suspected the inverter board caps and replaced the 4 680uf caps (2x on master, 2x on slave).

The issue remains unchanged and I could use advice.
    • Should I replace the inverters altogether?
    • Maybe I botched the cap replacement and should re-try?
    • Or is the left-side backlight just toast and I need a new TV?
    • Could it be the power board even though everything else is working?

    Regarding the inverters...
I've noticed that my identical inverters are no longer in stock (except from tear-downs on ebay). Shopjimmy lists 2 compatible inverter pairs for my set but the instock pair is completely different from what is in my TV.

    My TV has these:

    ShopJimmy says these will work:

Does anyone know if these are truly cross-swappable? I can probably finangle them into the case but wondering if the cables match and will drive the backlights.

Ugh! Football season right around the corner and no TV. Advice would be appreciated!

Any input on the above as appropriate next steps?

Picked-up a new TV -- I couldn't miss start of NFL season. But I would really like to get this one working again if possible.

Does anyone have any input on which direction I should go next?

I can't see those being swappable. Mechanically alone they won't fit.

Tom's right, Those won't work. There are several panels used in these sets. Give Ebay a chance, I've had good luck. Before you order, check to make sure the 24V to both master and slave is correct.

Before you spend any money. Post a picture of your set powered on in a dark room. I'm no expert, but wouldn't a bad inverter cause 2 seconds to black, or no backlight at all, rather than a dark half lit screen? I have a 46" Sanyo with bad tab bonds that does the same thing. I would hate to spend money on an inverter to find out the panel is bad.

Pic as requested. The backlighting appears to be even more faint now. I had to black-out the room for my crappy phone camera to even pick it up. It dimly illuminates only the top quarter of the screen. You can just barely make out the HDMI1 source msg in this pic (I have nothing connected to source at present).

I still need to re-open the case and check voltages as suggested by truep

I'm having a similar issue with a Vizio E550VL. Wondering if I could get some advice? I'm trying to decide what needs to be replaced. I'm thinking the back light inverter or main board. When the TV is on the display is hard to see. It is dark especially towards the center. You can barely see the writing in the center. If I go to the menu and reset the TV to factory settings it displays perfect on the whole screen for a few minutes then, slowly starts to fade and darken. Any advice would be great. I am new to this sight and hope it is ok to to post on this thread. I have an old CRT in my house so, it would be great if I can get this TV working correctly. Thank you for any help.

It is best to create your own thread. Otherwise, it gets confusing when the original poster comes back, or multiple people start talking over each other.
In the thread put what you have said plus pictures of the boards inside the set, and whether or not you own a digital voltmeter.

Re: Vizio VO47L - Inverter Issues?

This is a TC-P50S1. 7 blinking red lights, if I disconnect the SC board I get 6 blinking lights. If instead I disconnect the board on the opposite side(can't remember what it is called) I still get 7 blinking lights. I also tried disconnecting the upper and lower boards connected to the SC board but, this did not make a difference so, I believe the SC board is my problem. It has the glued on heat sinks so, I can't see if anything is blown. Everything visible looks fine. I can't seem to find a price under $130 for a board. Any suggestions where to get cheap parts?

This belongs in its own thread.
If you do not have good surface mount soldering skills repair services are available or board swap is the only option.

Sorry I got over zealous trying to find help and initially I could not figure out how to start a thread. Sorry again I will stick to my threads only.
