Samsung LN32C540 - Standby Light only.

Samsung LN32C540 - Plug in, shows standby light. Unit won't do anything else.

Under the direction of another thread with the same model, I unplugged the logic board form the power supply, and got 5.13V from A5V. After jumpering A5V to PS_ON, PSU did not put anything out on B5V or B13V. Suspect power supply board failure.

The thing is, I don't see any physical oddities on the board at all. No bulged caps, no burnt traces, no discolored resin.

Is there anything I could do to diagnose this board further?

What DC voltage do you get at that main filter cap (rated 450vdc) in the primary side, measure it right at the two pins of the cap when the TV is plugged in but not turn on, and after it is turn on? Be careful, you will be working on the LINE side, deadly side, so do not touch any thing with your hands.

You are getting the PFC Voltage boosting OK, that means the PS_ON (that means the 5BSTY is working) is working and also the 5V otherwise you will not be getting that boosted voltage.
Something in measurement is not right.

Hi everyone, this is my first post i hope it helps

I have been working on the same problem. Samsung LN32C540 - Standby Light only. this is how i fixed it. on the power supply board BN44-00338B i replaced "ICM801 FSFR-1700US" and "CM808 630V 18nF". Before repair i measured 11v on 24v output(PIN 14 OF CN803) and 5.4 v on 13v output(pin 17 of cn802) and the 5v output(PIN 14 OF CN802) was correct. It has now been working for 1 week 23/7 (not a typo, i put 23) turning it off for about 15 min. a few times a day. there are people selling these parts as a kit on ebay just search the power supply model number.

He replaced the SMPS ICM801 (Black flat pack IC mounting on the heatsink) and the Capacitor CM808 (.018UF 630V). If you look at the board, you will see those two comonents.

                        Hi Guys,

This is my first post. I build DIY Audio amps so I am familiar with electronic components. My Daughter has this Samsung TV that won't power on so she asked me to look at it. Google brought me here so I am looking for advice. I pulled the SMPS and have been testing it. Where I should see 24V I see a fluctuating 3V. I pulled CM808 and it reads 17nF on my cap meter so I'm thinking it is probably OK. I see about 170V across CP801S and I read somewhere it should be double that. Does all this point to the ICM801 FSFR-1700US? I can find those in a few places but before I order one I thought it wise to ask here.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

                        Blessings, Terry

My case, an Samsung LE37C530 series (Power Supply- DONG YANG BN44-00338B Model: P2632HD_ADY) had the same trouble- TV only in standby, not turn on; I changed only the CM808 capacitor and noted it was a little inflated. However, I didn't find the right one to change (18nF 630V) so I put an 10nF 2kV from an old desktop PC power supply, TV works fine!!!

Using 10nF instead of 18nF, the transformer will not get full drive Voltage, so to get the correct drive Voltage on the Primary winding the drive circuit will have to work harder since Xc is about twice as much as before.

                              Hey guys,
Thanks for posting the helpful info. on this problem.

I've pulled my BN44-00338B power supply board, and tested the capacitor at CM-808 per https://youtu.be/ASMOVbOZac0. I get a bit over 8v, which, according to the vid. means my cap is bad. I'd like to replace just that cap, since a kit for all of them is $23, but that one alone looks to be in the $4 range.

My question is, on the cap's label, what do the numbers to the right of the vertical bar indicate? I can find versions on ebay that look to be rated the same, but have different number on the right side of the black bar.

                              http://www.ebay.com/itm/2J183J-SIC-4...-/161260169142

Mine has a '10' over a '19'. Is that related to physical size/pin-spacing?

Again, thanks for contributing to the community here, and thanks for any help!

                              Zach

You should check the capacitance of that cap, but more likely it has lost its capacitance.
                                The lead spacing is 15mm.
                                SIC capacitor spec: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...589#post600589

The kit does not come with that cap, most kits just provide the electrolytics caps.
The cap per that picture is 0.018uF 5% 630V, Polypropylene cap.

My digital multimeter doesn't have a capacitance testing function. The ebay link is for just the SIC cap, not a kit, but there is a kit that does include it, which is the $23 version. The ones that don't run about $12.

No idea what the numbers on the right mean? I did decode the nF and tolerance rating of the cap, but wanted to nail down those other numbers to ensure I didn't order the wrong part.

"No idea what the numbers on the right mean?"
No, and it does not mean anything to me, I just order the right value and right type.
Your board does not use SIC cap?
BTW, you might as well replace the electrolytics caps as set any way.
Also did you check the Boosted Voltage to make sure it is >380VDC?

Yes, checked that, but it's only showing 375VDC.

It does use the SIC cap, that's the one I was asking about. The electrolytic caps look ok (zero bulging/scorching), but I see what you're getting at (as long as I'm in there...).

Edit: I wasn't aware of the >380VDC spec.

'Yes, checked that, but it's only showing 375VDC.' That is close enough, we just want to make sure the PFC is functioning.
Bad caps can look normal but they can have High ESR.
BTW, those number next to bar can be date code, factory location codes, batch codes, etc.
