Plasma question

I read somewhere that leaving a plasma face down can damage the panel. I can understand it might overheat if running for a long period of time, but I don't see any reason not to put it face down while making repairs.
Is it Myth or fact?

I have also heard this about plasmas. The few I have done were repaired facedown but stored standing because I was also unaware of it.

Be interesting to see the experts chime in.

Never had a problem with that. I've just gently laid them out on the table, with a towel below, to prevent possible scratches, or cracks in the screen (Also to help protect the table). From what I know, the glass is quite thick (LOL hence they weigh SO much!).

Never had an issue. The only things I make sure is there's no pressure on the screen and that the chassis is evenly supported as not to twist. The stiffest part would be in line with the bracing where the wall mounts would bolt.

Have transported these up to 300Ks laying on their backs on thick foam, yet to break one.

Transporting them face-down is the main issue. Like tw2005 mentioned, I've always transported the larger plasmas (50"+) on their backs with a lot of cushioning underneath to avoid breaking the glass or panel. I've worked on dozens face-down on a blanket without any issues.

I've transported three plasmas on top of each other face up no problem (as well as other displays numerous times), and always worked on them face down, but I've never tried facing them down due to the fear of breaking them.

Thanks guys, I thought it was bunk. It's been face down for 10 days and when I put the new SN board in it came up just fine.

Can plasmas be operated face down on a padded table long enough to take voltage readings? Is it a reasonable assumption, 2 guys with proper caution and care, laying down and picking up a plasma from a padded table shouldn't damage the panel? Thanks!

It shouldn't be a problem. I and others here have worked on dozens of plasmas facedown.
