Vizio XVT3D554SV Flashing logo, intermittent backlight, no sound or image

long time lurker, first time posting a thread.

I picked up a dead Vizio XVT3D554SV 55" 3d tv last night for about $100. The man I purchased it from said it just off one day and he got frustrated and just bought another one without bothering to have this one looked at. The TV itself looks beautiful, not a scratch, ding, mark or anything.. looks like it just came out of the box.

    Here are the symptoms:

When first plugging in, system does the normal orange/white flashing logo for about a minute, then it goes solid orange. Pushing power button on remote causes logo to go white, and sometimes the backlight turns on. Last night when I got it home I did the 30 second reset and upon turning it on I briefly saw the vizio splash screen and then it went away, followed by the backlight flickering and turning off. I tried resetting it a couple more times and I never saw the logo again, though the backlight turned on a couple times, and flickered and kicked off a couple times.

Today, I pulled the back off and did a full inspection of caps and chips. I saw no obvious heat damage, bulged or leaking caps, poor connections, etc. the first couple times I tried to fire it up I did get the backlight and could turn it on and off with the remote, but after a few times the backlight no longer comes on and the remote no longer can turn it off. After the initial plugging in and turning on with the remote the unit now does a constant cycle of trying to turn on (white logo for 90 seconds), then turning off and doing the orange/white flashing logo thing.

    Diagnosing:

I am seeing correct (I assume) voltage at both sides of the fuses on all boards. The following readings were taken during the white logo part of the cycle, during the orange/white flashing part the only voltage that holds is the 5.1v circuits. During the "on" part of the cycle the inverter board LEDs are on (LED1 constant, LED2 flashing).

    The T-com board has 5.1v (f4), 11.98v(f5), and 11.98v(F6) at its 3 fuses.

The main board has 11.98v, 18v, and 5.1v at its 3 fuses.

The inverter board has 28.5v at its 2 fuses. disconnecting the t-com board, the inverter board, or both at the same time doesn't change the on-off cycling.

Any suggestions or test voltage information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Jason

Had a Vizio SV370XVT with similar issue. Replacing main board fixed. I assumed but not sure that it was a corrupted eeprom.

damn.. I already bought a t-comm board on ebay. saw a few cases similar to mine and they solved it with t-comm boards. well, guess I can just resell it myself.

Tcomm board will be delivered today, but I suspect it won't solve the issue. Is there any way to re-flash the eeprom or acquire and solder one in myself? I've been doing quite a bit of searching and there doesn't seem to be much repair info on this tv.

Well, turns out it was the t-comm board! Swapped it in and it fired right up, no problems. Figured anyone else who has a similar issue to mine might find the solution helpful.

            Thunder,

I have the 47" version of this TV that has the same problems you describe. Just out of curiosity, with your old board out of the TV, did you ohm/continuity check the fuses?

My problem started yesterday when the image on the screen went wacky. Rainbow colored vertical strips vertically through the video. The video itself was sorta negative image looking. It had done this once in the past but turning it off and back on again fixed it. This time I got a dark screen and the visio logo would cycle orange/white. I had to unplug it to tun it off.

Now, all I get is the visio logo is orange when I plug the TV back in. I can turn it on with the remote but the only thing that happens is the logo turns white. After a while it will flash orange/white. If do nothing, it go white again and repeat the cycle. I can't turn it off with the remote.

From all I've been reading (your description is the closest to mine) I'm pretty sure my T-con board is the problem. When I retrieve my meter from work I'm going to see if I can find the problem with it.

No, though I had already done that during all the diagnostic tests I performed trying to figure this out. Fuses are good on the tcomm board, voltages were clean, etc.

I'll pop the covers off that board and see if there is any obvious damage. Have you had any luck finding test points or any other diagnostic documentation for these boards? I would love to be able to repair this board so I have a spare in the future.

                Cryhavoc,

I am hoping on good news.
Any luck? Did you get to replace T-Con board. This started with me yesterday.
If I shut down and force reset it will come back. But it is staying up for shorter sessions now 20~ minutes.

I also am having issues with my XVT3D554SV. A few days ago we came home and began watch tv. Suddenly our sound went out. We worked on it for hours. Hard resets, unplugging EVERYTHING, we even left it powered down and completely unhooked from everything for an entire day. Still no sound. The picture however is still flawless. I tried every input on the tv and could not get sound through any of it. I checked through the menu to make sure all the settings were right, turned off and on TruVolumn and so forth, we got nothing. I even paired it with a Bluetooth sound bar and still NO sound via Bluetooth. We are currently bypassing the TV's audio through an optical out to a sound bar from out Apple TV. We took the back off of the tv and everything looks great, no burnt smell, nothing swollen. The TV is wall mounted and in October of 2014 a burglar attempted to pull if off the wall but had no luck. What could be the cause?
