Vizio VL470M, serial LUKEHBK3800140, bought in March 2010.
Long story short, can a main board failure cause the back light screen not to light, or am I looking at the power board as well? I KNOW the main board was failing.
Details...
We had a power surge mess it up in August 2010. It would power on, but HDMI 1 was dead and it randomly responded by remote. But all rest was fine and it still responded to the side buttons.
The power and main boards were replaced under warranty. The power board was fine, but they replaced it anyways. I watched the guy work. I saw how easy it was (just two boards and a few cable and ribbon connectors), and have roughly 30 years experience building and repairing PCs along with minor experience repairing old tube monitors (LONG AGO NOW). The repair man even commented how simple this model was to repair compared to others.
The HDMI inputs over past few months went out one at a time just leaving a blue screen saying NO SIGNAL. By the time I found the extended warranty, and receipt, it expired. I decided I would just replace the main board myself soon. By this time, 3 out of 4 HDMI inputs were dead.
A few nights ago, I just stepped out for a minute, and came back, the screen was black but the audio was still playing through the surround sound (optical output). I turned it off, then back on. Light goes from amber to white, but no audio and back light is still out. Left it unplugged and tried it again, NOTHING. It does not even pass the audio through, even after switching it through HDMI channels. All I get it the amber light switching to blue.
So could it just be the main board or likely both?

Any advice? Thanks!
***EDIT*** I forgot to mention, I did read the basic troubleshooting guide. I am over 90% certain it is just the main board. I just wanted to verify the information before ordering parts. I should have time tomorrow to open the TV and do a closer inspection.
